Well I've had this problem for a while now and I've finally decided to get to the bottom of it. My fan motor is very intermittent. I'll go out and start the truck and it won't work at all. Then the next time I go to start it, it'll work like it should but not like its at full strength, even thought the switch is on full blast. Then there is times when it will work just like it should. Regardless I want it to work like it should and not be unpredictable like it is now.

I'm guessing its a loose ground somewhere in the switchbox thingamabobber. Does anyone know where exactly the grounds for this thing is? I already had to put up with a week of -30*C with it acting like this and thats something I DON'T want to repeat .

Are you talking about your blower motor under the dash? If so it is probably going out. They cost around $20 bucks. Been needing to replace mine for awhile, thanks for the reminder!

They are just dummies. It's called a blower motor. I got mine from Advance, and they are just an average chain store.

Well good news i I replaced blower motor.. bad news is stil no fan when I turn on switch.. next step replace switch

Well I've been procrastinating about this for a while but I think next week I might tear into it (I've been really busy with school ). Anyways I went to the local dealer, $61 for that flippin' switch! No thanks I'll find one elsewhere. Napa didn't have it as I expected so now I gotta find a salvage yard or a guy parting out a first gen or old Dodge gasser.

Sorry I didn't see this thread in time but it is the switch. Get another one and tear your old one apart. I was amazed that mine had worked at all. Some guys add relays to the system (to reduce switching amps) Only Hi and Medium need them. This is the permanent fix. I have not done this myself but know it is the best solution. If it gives me any grief again I will do it properly. I have a ton of old bosche relays that will work. The local pick a part has lots of these switches.

There's also a block resistor (~$20 at the local dealer) behind the glove box in the heater plenum. When they go bad heater motors do weird things. 2 screws, easy to replace.

Thanks guys, I'm going to get a new switch here very soon. I hope that cures it, if not then I'll try ofcMarc's suggestion. Does anybody have a pic of that resistor?

Bill, that pick your part you speak of wouldn't happen to be on 184th street by the Yellowhead would it? I've tried to get parts for my truck there and they rarely have anything for Dodges, seems to be about 90% fords and chevys .

The fan speed switch contacts may just be dirty inside from thousands of times of being switched up and down, I have fixed my fan switch,headlight pull switch,dimmer switch,wiper switch and also my TPS with just a $5.00 can of electronic parts cleaner, I always try that first then start replacing parts later if needed. Try spraying a little in any open part of the switch and move it up and down real fast a few times and see if it works. But be careful it will ruin some colored plastics and carpet.

My guess is the resistor is bad. Replace it first.

Ok so I'm going to check with NAPA on this resistor. Does anybody have a part # or what this thing is actually called? Some of the boys at napa already have a hard enough time finding easy parts, I don't wanna throw a doozie like this at them .

EDIT: I went out and pulled out my glove box. I need to know what this thing looks like. Also I found a simple 2 prong plug that a has a black/white wire running to it. What is this for? I couldn't find the male end to plug it into.
