EZ Comp

Just bought a 02 3500. I like the truck but want a little more power and better performance out of the auto tranny. I'm thinking the EZ comp might satisfy my needs, but I don't want to go all out with the exhaust, gauges, etc...

Can I install the EZ comp at a low setting, maybe 50hp, and not have to worry about high EGT's when towing? ???

Re:EZ Comp

I'm using the Edge Comp without the wire hooked up to the pump.
Works like an adjustable EZ. ;D
Hooking up the wire without upgrading the stock auto trans will be expen$ive in the long run.
Gauges are a good idea before doing any performance mods.

Re:EZ Comp

So the stock tranny can't handle the comp and the EGT's would be too high, even with a conservative setting?

Re:EZ Comp

Ditto on what Shovelhead said. I just installed gauges on my rig 3 weeks ago, just before going on a trip up the East Coast towing a 8050 lb 5th wheel. On straight flat roads everything was fine but going up an incline the exhaust temps start to creep up. On my way back I reprogrammed the truck with the Supperchips programmer level 2 (50hp) and I thought I was going to have to get off the go pedal coming out of the tunnels. I would not have known this without the gauges.
I would install gauges first to get a baseline so you will know what is normal for your truck.
The tranny temp is important especially if you do any towing. Things heat up in stop and go traffic and when backing up a trailer (was really surprised how hot things got when backing up). You don’t want to shut down with these elevated temps it can shorten the life of the drive train. There is plenty of good post on this site about temps and gauges you might want to read before you start bombing.
My $0.02 worth.
Good luck

Re:EZ Comp

The biggest trouble with the wire hooked up/stock tranny is the temptation.

What do you think of the Supperchips programmer. I haven't heard too many good things. Ever Dyno'd your rig??

I think it’s ok it’s not as good as the edge product. I got mine to get a little kick until I get the tranny work done, and I like the idea of the code reader with the reset. You can also calibrate the speed o if you change tire size.
It plays with the fuel and timing but not the boost. I can see that in the exhaust temps as compared to stock. I called them to try and get them to raise the boost limit in the computer but they said they had no plans to do this. ??? I ordered the “Turbo-Master” and I’m rigging up a boost fooler so I can raise the boost a little myself.
I have heard on another post that it stacks with the Edge product very nicely. ;D
No I haven't dyno'd the rig yet. I'll do that when I get time and find a place to do it, but it's on the list.
Hope this helps.

Re:EZ Comp

I have the superchips programmer and an edge drag comp...the superchips I would give just an OK to...not as much as an EZ. That is seat of the pants dyno!

It does run nicely with the comp, tho.

The code reader is fun to play with at our bomb parties.

Re:EZ Comp

I just wanted to be able to justify either spending $300 CAN for either the superchips or and Edge EZ. I would really like to see them on the Dyno on my truck. The other choice is to spend around $800 for the Edge Comp which to me is a lot of money but maybe a better long term investment. And then there are the tranny issues to worry about on top which is something I don't want to get into. Hows the fuel economy with the superchips, any better??

Re:EZ Comp

I noticed about a 1.3 mpg increase with the supperchips. I hear about the same or better for the Edge that is if you can keep your foot out of it. I would definitely do the tranny up-grade and if I was to do only one thing I would do the Edge Comp. It has a built in boost fooler and you can change settings on the fly. I have to go through a load sequence for each change. I will most likely add the comp later.

Re:EZ Comp

I've dynoed with a superchips tuner and i gained 32 HP to the rear wheels over stock. I've also dynoed with an edge ez and got just over 40 HP to the rear wheels. If you plan on wanted to do anything more to your truck than just a box go with a the edge comp, you can always run it on lower settings.

also the superchips tuner and edge comp does make a decent "stack" we've seen good numbers on trucks with injecters and bigger turbos with the combo.
