extrude honed vs edm injector nozzles
I know a little about both but what makes EDM injector nozzles better or worse than extrude honed injector nozzles for bosch common rail w/ cp3 pump, mainly the 03 and up cummins and Duramax

EDM's usually start life as a 'blank ' tip with no holes in them.
Extrude honed are usually existing holes made larger
Benefits of EDM is more precise holes, and correct spray angles can be maintained

I know the guys at DDP want to dyno my DMX, but I can't convince myself to drive another 4 hours off the beaten path to do it.

Most EDMs can't get smaller than 10 or 12 thous. A have some friends (you them tomac) that had 4 of the 8 holes enlarged to 12. personally think they lost power over extrude honed injectors.
EDM is a better process. Extruding makes the tip look like an injector with 100k miles on it but they are cheaper, should be but dealers mark up quite a bit so the savings may be very close to customers.
if this is for a common rail application, my choice is extrude honed. wide open performance offers them, i;m sure others do as well.

Either way works well if done correctly. I extrude hone the stock nozzles or provide brand new custom nozzles. I have not done much with the DMAX yet. Some prototyping ,etc.
Depending on what the application is...I can pretty much come up with a solution on fuel delivery.
I can make a hole as small as .001 with a laser or about .0035-.004 with EDM. .004 all day back to back in any depth to .100

Don, In regards to EDM VS extrude hone, Isn't EDM a better System as it allows you to respect the factory spray angle?
IIRC wouldn't extrude honing an injector tip be prone to a less efficient spray pattern because of this?

No, extrude honing does not really change anything on the spray pattern. The impact remains roughly the same. The drawback to EH is the internal seat destruction.... if it is not done properly. Erosion of the metal you need in the seat is washed away with aggressive/improper honing.
Recall the nozzles are lightly honed from Bosch to reduce the flow tolerance between them all. I stress lightly.
Not all EH'ing is created equal. We have some 125 HP EH nozzles that never pop or bang. Most others cant break the 80 HP mark without the poping at high rpm. At last check, I have a guy with just over 90,000 miles on some honed 90 HP injectors. It can be safe, if its done properly.
EDM just gives a total flexibility to make whatever you like. Hole size, number of, angle of the cone, etc. This can eliminate honing altogether and get the flow rate you want.

Kax motor sports at Timberline dodge in portland oregon sells EH ijectors for the 600, claims 80+ hp at RW and +150 tq, also dont know much about this process/injectors, they say it will not void my warranty. I am seriousely looking into it, at $1200 installed doesnt seem that bad for non warranty voiding power, what do u guys think?
