extra filter which one?

extra filter which one?

After getting six new sticks i've decided that dodges current filter system is not good enough. I have 06 mega with juice/w att. So what filter system are you guys using. I have seen a gdp system, but i have read some guys are using cat filters. Just curious which filter body they use for this and where do they mount it? Any info and pics would be great.

I am researching which filter to get also. Am thinking about the new 1 micron glass filter by Nicktane, although he only lists it for the Duramax. I think it could be made to work with the Dodge Cummins.

I also want a water separator and have been looking a this setup that will use either Fleetguard or Cat filters. Best price I have seen.

Check the link in my sig for my full setup.. I don't think you will find any cleaner fuel.

I read a report on a study of the 2 micron Cat filter and it is a 4 micron absolute and the Fleetguard 2 micron is a 5 micron absolute. Don't know if the report is accurate and true.

The more times you filter the fuel the cleaner it will be, even through the same type filter.

I will continue the use the 7 micron Fleetguard OEM filter (which is 7 micron absolute) and will add another filter and water seperator after the lift pump, just haven't dicided which one as yet. A 20 micron filter is between the tank and the lift pump.

I am looking at a Baldwin 2 micron filter and water seperator that I can get through work for $121 and the filter elements are $9. It can operate at pressures up to 25 psi. My lift pump produces 18 psi at idle. The filter element is advertised to be good to 40k miles. The filter is less than 7 inches in height which will make it easy to find a place to install it. I will change the filters based on pressure drop.

When you comapre the same test standards the Cat is 2um. Based on newer test standards its a 4um. But apples to apples its 2um vs 5um. (According to the new standard 4um is all that you can test down to, but most companies still report on the older one)

What is the filter number? Baldwin has gone to a multipass rating on their filters. This means the "2um" Baldwin BF7633 is 5um multipass, but 7um singlepass... So be weary with Baldwin ratings.

So this means my Balwin BF1212/BF7633 combination is not providing the filtration I thought I was attaining? I previously ran Fleetguard FS1212/FF5320, I changed to the Baldwins because I could purchase them for less.

I believe the Cat fuel filter I need is a 1R-0750(1R-0749 large), what is the number for the Cat water/fuel separator?

The BF1212 is actually rated a little better than the FS1212 at f/w sep, so you can stick with it. The BF7633 isn't worth running. You are correct on the 1R-0750. And the Cat f/w sep isn't as good as the Baldwin or Fleetguard.

I run the BF1212 and Cat 1R-0750 and the PF7977 in the OE canister.

I do not have the cataloge at home so I do not know the filter number. The filter/water seperator is an all metal system and the filter is small and is not a spin on. To replace the filter you take it apart. the water seperator is a an all metal gravity seperator. The sump will hold 4 oz. of water if I understand the specs. If I decide to use this one I wll put a Cat filter or a 1 micron glass filter from Nicktane in the line after it.

I am really still undecided, but I need to decide soon.

Does anyone know if there any problem running a 2 micron filter after the stock Cummins filter with just the stock in tank lift pump on my 2006

I am running stock filter to a GDP 2 micron. All on the stock in tank lift pump. I have a post 2 mic filter tap for my pressure gauge and see 10 psi at idle and have not seen below 8. NO engine mods yet... I do have a Fuel Boss pump on the bench ready to go in. I have plans that the stocker can't hold up to.

I have 3 filters on my stock LP. Almost to 30K miles this way with no issues and psi is 5 at WOT.

ah64id,

I have been given a new BF1212 (no longer needed at work as we no longer have the equipment that uses it) and will be ordering the base by Baldwin. If they use the same base I will order 2 and get started on my filter setup.
