Extended Warranty Rejected Transmission Claim for OVERSIZE TIRES!

I had my truck (96,900 miles) at the dealership for a few problems they were supposed to be covered by extended warranty, one of which was a slipping tranny. They dropped the tranny, disassembled it, made a parts list and submitted it to the warranty adjuster. The adjuster didn't seem to have a problem with it but for such a "big ticket" item, they need to send an inspector out there before they approve the claim. We heard back later explaining that my claim was rejected due to "modifications" which nullify coverage of the drivetrain. These modifications were my 305 tires and because they are 2.5" larger than stock, they will not cover any drivetrain problems. I was told that larger tires put more strain on the transmission. Has anyone heard of a TC going out because of larger tires!!!! I told them that TC's go out all the time on a completely stock trucks. In fact, that was the only reason why I bought the warranty in the first place!

what the dealers don't show you (or we read it for that fact) is in the fine print it states in not so many words that you can't modify your truck at all and if you do the warranty is void. they can do this on extended warranties cause you are paying extra for it and they are only covering the "factory" parts and if its been modified your screwed.

happened to me on my 07 mega. bought the truck brand new, the extended warranty and about 38k the tranny went. inspector came out, took pics and since it was lifted the ext warranty said HECK NO, well I started yellin and screaming cause the truck was lifted by the dealer (the initial lift anyways then I went higher ) and the dealer researched it and found out the F&I guy sold me the WRONG CONTRACT. He was supposed to sell me a contract that COVERED modified vehicles. Needless to say, the dealer covered the transmission (i had a $100 deductible) AND gave me my money back for the service contract.

SO- for anyone out there that is looking to buy an extended warranty, MAKE SURE YOU BUY ONE THAT IS FOR MODIFIED VEHICLES

I have seen it time and time again. That is why I usually strongly advise someone against spending the money on an extended warranty if they plan to do anything to the vehicle. I submitted a claim for a guy with a bad injector and it got denied for larger than stock tires.

Just got off the phone with one of the supervisors. He told me that it could be up to 1.5" greater than stock for them to approve it. I think I am going take it in the shorts on this one!

Thats the ONLY reason I bought my extended warenty on my truck. I am afrais of this auto. So far with 112K the tranie is still going strong but the front end has been replaced under the extended warenty. That got most of my money back. I am thinking I have more front end isues cause it now drives like crap and is a handfull and vibrates real bad so maybee I can get the rest of my money out of the warrenty. The injectors are sounding bad to but it still runs fine.

Mine is getting a new TC & other 48re internals right now under the 7/70 Powertrain Warranty. All stock except for 285/70 DuraGrapplers. I wanted to go a bit larger (285/75) but I specifically got this size since it's so close to stock and it actually is the stock size for the Power Wagon.

Of course, that's a standard Chrysler warranty vs. an extended warranty so maybe a totally different ballgame. If you were trying to get away with having a programmer and still trying to get warranty coverage I would say tough luck, you pay to play. But this is so marginal that I hope you can persuade them to cover it. Good luck.

The service rep at the dealership I am working with said if this had been a Dodge warranty, there would not be a problem.

Mine was also in for a loose front end. The extended warranty already covered it once which almost paid for itself there. Now it needs a new trac-bar but was turned down because the the tires. I am not going to fight them on that one. I am just going to buck up and get a Thuren trac-bar and be done with it.

If I knew this was going to happen I would have traded a buddy for some stock tires for the week while it was in the shop!
