So I really want too finish up my jake brake install and get a permanent switch mounted but dang I don't want too pay 90 bucks for a shifter mounted switch. So reviewing my options I was going to use a two speed axle switch but I think I stumbled across a really neat idea. Would a floor mounted dimmer switch work? I see three connections on the switch I am for sure its power in power out and a ground and I think my jake brake will match up too this.

Should work great. I have a mini toggle mounted on my shifter but I think the floor switch is an excellent idea.

Years ago I installed a floor mounted dimmer switch to turn on/off my driving lights. I just mounted it up higher on the firewall to avoid confusing it with the headlight dimmer switch. You shouldn't have a problem doing this. I am not sure but you only need two of the posts as you will be doing an on/off cycle rather than toggling between two on cycles (hi/low).

I believe just screwing it to the firewall (or wherever you mount it) will provide the ground.

Before buying my shifter mounted switch, I built one that I ran for a while until the switch went bad. They are simple to make. I just got a piece of metal, bent it to desired shape & mounted my switch in it. Then I used a old set of handle bar brackets from a bicycle to attach it to the shifter. It actually looked good too. You can get the push/pull switches cheap. That dimmer switch will work though.

I think the floor mount will be great it would be about as handy as a shifter switch I am going too napa this morning too get one and wire it up and will post photos of the switch and the new wheels

This thing is sweet after I found the two poles that I needed plug them wires from the jacobs harness on an crimped them down a little firmer and then wrapped the whole thing in electrical tape and mounted it too the floor. I mounted it a touch high so its a toe operation I might move it a little bit lower than were its at but we will see. This switch only cost like 6 bucks after my discount at napa so I saved almost 80 bucks or more going this way than the flippen 90 dollar shifter switch. I still have a little carpet too trim but my box knife was dull and did not want too saw the carpet. Here is a photo of the install and a couple of the new wheels after the factory alum alloy cracked.
