Exhaust

which exhaust system do you think is the best and why.

mine is 4 inch straight piped wouldnt that be better than mbrp, magnaflow, flowmaster, diamond eye and etc.

just here people always saying this better than that casue more horse or whatever it is.

i would think straight piped would be better cause for one a diesel does not need back pressure. and also no muffler or converter is there to restrict it. bad part is its really loud in the cab but the sound grows on you.

any thoughts would be nice. not trying to start an argument here but i would like to here your thought.

It really depends on how you use your truck and personal taste. If you tow a lot it can get really annoying to have all that sound bouncing back at you off the trailer.

The free flowing systems like the MBRP are straight through mufflers any way so all they really do is help attenuate sound unless you are pushing HUGE HP numbers.

No straight pipes for me, a 12 valve with a MBRP system is plenty loud enough for my tastes.

the noise is even worse if you have stacks. mine was straight piped w/ the stacks and i couldn't even talk to my passengers while pulling a grade w/ a 12k load. i love the exhaust setup i have now.

the town i live in your allowed to blow .80 decibals and when i got pulled over it blew .86. to loud i understand that but the stupid cop said i can have stacks and be louder. cause when they check for sound the sound disstbrutes up so you cant get an accuarte reading. seemed unfair to me.

I have stacks and love them, went from a dual muffler setup to a single muffler, and now just run it straight. Its not as loud as you would prob imagine, but its pretty dang loud with a load behind. Its good to have a little backpressure to help spool the turbo, but its not all that necessary, just helpful.

If you don't mind I'll post some vids to give you an idea. The sound alone makes this setup a winner. I'm eventually gonna add a 2nd gen exhaust manifold to make it sound even better.

straight

with dual mufflers (flo-pro twister)
