Exhaust Manifold Coating....

I bought a used ATS 2 pc Pulse Flow exhaust manifold......

It has some slight rusting in various area and I want to get it blasted and recoated.

Is it ok to have a 'header' style ceramic coating applied?

I know ceramic coating is commonly used on gasoline motor header applications, but was not sure about the usage on diesel manifolds.

THANKS!

There would be no problem running that setup. We use a ceramic based paint on ours with no issues.

I have tried VHT flame proof paint 1500 degs. on a new exhaust manifold and and it still looks as good as when it was just sprayed. You have to heat cycle it on the truck or in an oven. We used the oven to heat cycle it per the instructions. The manifold has seen the EGT gauge pegged at 1600 degs. The paint also comes in various colors.

The other thing you can use is a wood stove paint. Dont know if it comes in any other colors but dull black and gloss black but i want to say its good up to about 2800deg and it doesnt chip or show blemishes very easily. Good luck cooking that off.

Question: Did you coat the inside and outside?

I have a local powdercoating shop that will bead blast the manifold and ceramic coat it for $120

I just coated the outside I think can't remember off hand will have to check at my shop where the truck and parts are.

I have had a local powder coater ceramic coat exhaust housings and other pieces in the past. But if I wanted it polished he had to send it out.

I went with www.nitroplate.com this time and it was very near what you got quoted for yours.

What is the best way to get the two halves of the manifold seperated?

We only use the silver ceramic coating for the intake side of the cylinder head - everything else on the hot side (inside & out) gets the high-temp black ceramic.

Anyone help out?

Penetrant spray?

Heat it up in the stove or put it in the freezer?

Most folks have to send it back to ATS to get it back in one piece if someone takes it apart. I don't know how they coat them, apart or together.

There's no reason to disassemble it - we just port it from both sides, drill & tap where needed and drop it off at the hot-coater's.
