Re:What exactly is?
The fuel supply system on the CTD is two stage. The lift pump is the low pressure side, drawing fuel from the tank, pushing it through the filter, and feeding the high pressure injection pump.
As you can read on here, the electric lift pump is one of the weak points on the Dodge CTD. The fuel pressure gauges alot of people install, are actually monitoring the operation this pump.

Exactly! Its a fuel pump who's sole purpose is to move the fuel from the tank at low pressure and send it to the injection pump so the pressure can be raised enough to be used by the engine. Tony

if ya do a search on it im sure youll find multiple threads. i just had mine replaced a few weeks ago due to bad fuel. if u still have ur warranty it will be covered. although i have an idea of what they do and how they work, i think its best to leave it to some of the other guys on here to give u a thorough answer (i honestly dont think i know enough about them and dont want to give u misinformation :) however for a quick answer u can go to the FAQ's in the "tech facts" section of the site

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...p;onlynewfaq=1

hope some of the above helps

the "help" forum has alot of threads about the lift (or transfer, as DC referred to it as) pump. seems like alot of people replace/upgrade their own though. i wouldve liked to have done mine myself but a college parking lot doesnt really offer the greatest workin conditions
