Standard S300G comes with what looks to be a rather small compressor outlet on the inside diameter. Is there anything to be said for opeing that up or is it a waste of time? Would it impede the intended function of the charger? Thanks.

Not only a waste of time ut in most cases it would be counterproductive.

These compressors work by accelerating air particles radially. Then those particles do bounce and get deflected towards the exit- and then there is the diffusor that kind of straightens out the movement of them and therefore they all want to go in the same direction.
(I know that my English is not sufficient to explain this really correctly)
The angle of the diffusor is determined by the estimated vectors of the particles, so that they will reflect to the correct direction. If you do open up the compressor outlet you will change the angle of the diffusor, and this can lead to a lower efficiency. The compressor outlet diameter does also serve as a kind of iris to let only particles coming from a certain range of points (and therefore having a certain range of vectors) through, if you do just enlarge the compressor outlet before the diffusor you will generate a lot of turbulence on the compressor outlet. A high pressure turbulence there can lead to blocking a part of the outlet, effectively reducing the diameter of the outlet from an air particle's point of view.

Awe heck I know exactly what your doing and I am always guilty of this same thing. For what it's worth there is nothing wrong with trying to make things better than the way they came from the factory. The only problem is most of the time the are already of optimal design.
