Five Christian church leaders punished by being run over by a steamroller before a crowd of spectators who "cried, screamed out, or fainted when the skulls made a popping sound as they were crushed."
what a way to go. those people are animals.

If you want to help, PRAY! That is a terrible situation to be in, but if you know it is right death shouldn't deter you.

I just saw a story on one of these new programs (20/20, 60 mins.)
They had a guy with at hidden camera showing people being shot in front of crowds of people for smuggling other into China.
Thats just a crazy part of the world right now.

Sickening.

The history of Kim Jong Ill (sp?, who cares) is amazing. Those people are actually teaching there pre-schoolers that he is GOD? I can't remember the details, but there is a whole fairy tale as to how he was magically born on a mountian side and all.

I'm thinking we should re-direct some of our Crusades out of the Middle East and over to Asia.
Ever seen their Army, with the carzy foot stomp marching?
Scary stuff, very Hilter/Stalin like.

The other thing was the survial rate at his prisions. I think they claimed like 85-90% of prisioners die, not don't get out, DIE. There is a huge banner like sign across the roads the road leading into one of the prisons that reads something like, "Die for your Leader, Kim Jong Ill".
Not Cool.

How bad was Bosnia when we decide to hop in there and kick butt?

Not nearly as bad as it is going get. There is a LOT of persecution going on EVERY day around the world that is not reported in the mainstream media. Christians are increasingly being hunted down, imprisoned, tortured, killed etc for standing up for their belief in Jesus Christ. And don't think that you in America are immune!!! Christian in the USA are under attack like never before and it is going to become a lot worse in the very near future. Groups like the ACLU and others are determined to eliminate Christianity in the USA.
Will not get into the 'why' here as it will cause too much contraversy.

The 20 parishioners were detained near their clergy, and watched, along with the assembled audience, as the five Christian leaders were told they could escape death if they denied their faith and pledged to serve only Kim Jong Il and his father, the first dictator of communist Korea, Kim Il Sung. According to the eyewitness, the clergy remained silent.
If this is true then I really admire these men for their faith. If put in the same situation, I like to think that I would have done the same thing.

You don't have to go to North Korea to see supression of religious freedom. Try your backyard. Now the athiests have a suit pending to remove "In God We Trust" from our money. Somehow, they don't understand the definition of a church. And the majority and the liberal courts allow it to happen. They also have not read the constitution. Maybe they would like to re-write that also and, in Bush's wonderful words, "re-write history".

The persecution that Christians in America face is very real, but it isn't a physical persecution like you see in many other countries.

Sorry Hoss, I have to disagree to some extent as it depends on how you define physical persecution. In the USA folks are losing jobs etc because of their Christian beliefs. Is that not a form of persecution? It sounds like you are equating persecution with loss of life and jail. In the USA so far it is just the thin edge of the wedge, but it is soon going to get worse. OK, agreed, in the states the chances of Christians being squished by a steamroller are remote (so far) but the persecution as seen in other countries is on it's way to your neighborhood.

There is a lot of persecution in the US but nothing comparing to this. The people can huff and puff all they want about taking out the "In God We Trust" or the "Under God" in the pledge of allegiance. It has been this way for a long time and they aren't going to be able to change it. If they don't like it, don't say it and don't use money.

They persecution that others see is unreal. I know someone that was in China a month ago doing a mission trip. I haven't heard many of her stories yet, but she was careful not to mention that she was a Christian in e-mails. I could only hope that I could be a strong as they were if persuction should arise.

Thank GOD of the freedom of religion.

I was referring only to physical persecution...as in getting steamrolled or beaten.

Wanna know why persecution doesn't really bother me though (whether it is a flogging or just being called a bigot here on DTR)??

"Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me. Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you." - Matthew 5:10-12

and

"Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. But evil men and impostors will proceed from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. You, however, continue in the things you have learned and become convinced of, knowing from whom you have learned them, and that from childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus." - 2 Timothy 3:12-15

Here is just one example of what is going in the world today:

FAITH UNDER FIRE
Radicals threaten to burn Christians to death
Warn of consequences if they don't reconvert to Hinduism by Sunday
Posted: November 17, 2005
1:00 a.m. Eastern

More than 60 Christian converts in northern India will be burned to death if they refuse to return to Hinduism by Sunday, a group of extremists has warned.

The radical Hindus severely beat the converts' pastor, Feroz Masih, in a Nov. 4 attack in the state of Himachal Pradesh, accusing him of "forcibly converting" Hindus, reported Compass Direct, a news service that monitors persecution of Christians.

Masih sustained internal injuries requiring medical treatment and still is recovering.

The pastor's son, Ramesh, told Compass Direct the estimated 10 attackers were members of the World Hindu Council and its youth wing Bajrang Dal, which has been blamed for waves of attacks against Christians and other religious minorities since the rise of the Hindu nationalist party BJP in the late 1990s.

The attackers forced Masih, 62, to sign a document stating his willingness to participate in a ceremony Sunday in which all of the Christians would convert back to Hinduism, Ramesh said.

If the pastor or church members refuse to participate, they will be burned to death, the radicals warned.

Masih and his son lead a local congregation related to Believer's Church in India that meets in their home in the town of Baijnath.

The radical Hindus said they would come to the house Sunday to read from the Gita, the Hindu scripture, and convert the Christians back to Hinduism.

The two church leaders sent a letter of complaint to officials at the local police station in Baijnath and the National Commission for Minorities, Compass Direct said.

The letter included the names of six of the attackers: Harbans Lal, Madan Lal, Santosh Kumar, Ravi Kumar, Jitender Kumar, and Bablu Kumar.

But Compass said the police regarded the beating as a "minor incident."

"An official complaint [regarding the attack] has not been registered, and no one has been arrested," said Constable Rakesh Kumar.

According to Kumar, the VHP attacked Masih based on the complaint of a local resident, Prakash Chand, who alleged Masih forcibly converted his wife two years ago. Kumar said police believe Masih did not use force.

Masih's son, however, said the beating was inspired by local media reports that claimed his father was forcibly converting Hindus.

"We simply preach the message of peace and joy as given in the Bible. All the believers who attend the worship ... have embraced Christianity out of their own will," he said.

The Masihs, who are connected to K.P. Yohannan's Gospel for Asia missionary group, say they still are waiting for a police response to the death threats.

Yohannan said it's not clear that the police will take any action, noting the area is dominated by a large temple to the Hindu god Shiva, which draws thousands of pilgrims.

The threat, he said, is reminiscent of the brutal murder of Australian missionary Graham Staines and his two children in 1999 by Hindu radicals in the state of Orissa, who vowed to burn alive anyone who did not renounce their new faith.

"What is most important now is that we pray for this situation," said Yohannan. "These brothers and sisters have chosen by their own free will to follow Christ. I urge you to pray for their protection, and that God will surround them with His angels and turn back any violence. Please also pray for their attackers, that their hearts will be softened and that God will work a miracle in their lives."

My wife and I support Gospel for Asia, K.P Yohannan's group.

As a Christian charged with being a good steward of God's money, I feel it is one of the wisest "investments" for tithe/offering/random giving.

The need in Asia is very great.
