engine using oil

I purchased this truck about 2 months ago I use it to haul a dump trailer for my work.I checked the oil today and it was at the very bottom near the add line. The oil has about 3000 miles on it is this normal? Also the truck does't have any lack of power and I haven't noticed any white smoke.

Welcome Aboard.

What kind of truck do you have? Did you buy it brand new, or was it used? How many miles on the truck? What kind of oil are you using in the engine?

You may want to fill out your signature block.

FWIW, my truck has 46k on it and I've never added oil between oil changes, nor has the level ever gone down appreciably.

How many quarts low is it if its at the bottom of the add line? Two quarts per 3000 miles may be within manufacturers specifications.

Fill in your sig so we know what ya have. That is a little low on oil and I wouldnt call it normal. Mine didnt use half a quart during initial break in. Is it leaving oil marks under the truck? It may be going out the breather pipe. On the older rides a vacuum pump leak would cause the crankcase to preasurize and burn oil but I dont know if that is a problem on the third gen trucks. Someone else will chime in here soon.

How long after shutdown before checking the oil? Was the truck level?
I wait at least 15 minutes after shutdown to get a accurate reading on the oil level.

I bought it used it had 25000 miles on it.It now has 31000 miles on it.There are no signs of an oil leak and I had the oil changed at the dealer so what ever oil they use,but my next oil change I'am putting amsoil in it.Also if anyone can tell me what the oil change intervals are I would appriciate it the manual I have is for 305 h.p. but on the motor it is rated at 325h.p.

As someone said, and the manual says, wait a while before you check the oil level. Typically 15 minutes.
