Engine Temp

While towing in stop and go traffic with outside temp of 58 my truck temp went up to 218.
I had the system changed at 105,000 miles, current milage is 125,433.
What could be causing the engine to get so hot?
While driving stays around 190.
Do I need to add an electric Fan?
I know 218 is not that hot but when summer hits I don't want a problem when it is 90 deg instead of 58.
Any help would be great.

Is your engine fan engaging? The fan clutches have been known to fail. You should be able to easily hear the fan when it engages.

Ive got the same setup as you, and there are times when it runs over 200 ish while buzzing around. Ive never had the truck overheat. I guess a question for you is what was your normal operating temp before the flush?

Did they change the thermostat when they did the coolant flush? I try to change the thermostats in my cars about every other coolant flush.

Check with your dealer. I believe it should engage before that temp.

spray a cleaner / degreaser on your radiator, let it set for a little bit and gently rinse it off. Inspect the fins to see if any have deteriorated.

I agree that the thermostate should be checked. Try running with the A/C on and see if it makes a differance.(if you know that is engaging the fan)

Yesterday it ran up to 205 I turned the AC and the temp dropped 15 deg
Is there any way to turn the fan clutch on without turning the AC on?
The radiator is clean, my engine and compartment is usally cleaner than the outside.
