Engine Stumble

My 99 24v sometimes will stumble when I am driving it. It occured 4 times yesterday. Essentially, I'll be going along fine then the engine acts like it is running on 2 cylinders. If I put in the clutch, or give it gas - it only idles worse. The only cure is to shut off the engine, then immediately turn it on.

I recently had it at the dealer and the said no ECM updates were needed...

What gives?

Is this a sign of a lift pump going out? :-

The engine has 91K miles on it. Never has had any problems other then the oil sensor switch I mentioned in a previous post.

Re:Engine Stumble

i would definitely start with fuel...first off, make sure you have a clean filter and drain your water seperator..then, you need to check the fuel pressure from your lift pump...if your lift pump is original it is likely it could be weak and not feeding your injection pump as needed...it could also be your crankshaft position sensor too, does your tach ever bounce say from an idle rpm to 0 while its running?? im guessing they checked for codes when you had it at the dealer??

Re:Engine Stumble

I don't know if they checked for codes.
No, the tach has never bounced.

Any pointers to a good source for an electronic fuel pressure guage?

Since coming to the board, I've read *ALOT* - worries me the number of posts about failed lift pumps. I didn't know what one was until I found this site. ???

Re:Engine Stumble

Are you running any type of fueling box?

The engine can stumble if the fueling box is not properly grounded. My Banks did and I have read about Edges doing it also.

Hope you find out what the problem is!
