engine skip
I have an ocassional skip when traveling at steady speed usually feel it between 45-65 mph. I may do it 1 time in an hour commute or it may do it 6-8 times but is seem like it doesen't fire on one cylinder then it is fine for a while. I have had the truck for about 5 years and have not had this problem and can't put my finger on the problem. Friend of mine said it may be the cam or crank sensor any suggestions?
Thanks

the fix for the skip
I used the fourth gear hunt fix from ATS performance and that fixed the problem.

Use this link and perform the repair and I think it will fix your problem also.

Engine skip or miss
Well the engine skip or miss is now doing it when it is idleing or driving. Sometimes when you pull up to a light it will shake sputter then die. It starts right back up with no problem and it never looses fuel pressure during any of it. I thought it might be moisture in the fuel so I used additives and it was better for a while and seems to return after every rain. Is it possible to pick up moisture this way I have a good fuel cap. None of the diesel mechanics in my area have heard of this issue.

You could have a fuel shutdown solenoid getting weak or just needing cleaning. My last 97 did that. It also had similar issues with a piece of foil in the tank blocking off the inner screen. Really weird. abut look over the solenoid. It is an electic current that holds it open when the key is on turns off when the key is off. But it can get sticky and dry inside and can be cleaned and lubed. It may be slowwly dropping out of contact.

Engine is shutting off now not skipping.
Well the engine is now shutting down when it is idleing or driving at low speed. Sometimes when you pull up to a light it will shake sputter then die. It died 15-20 times in about 20 mile strech of city driving. It starts right back up with no problem and it never looses fuel pressure until the engine has been shut down for several seconds. I thought it was the MAP sensor but it does it even with the sensor out of the loop. Please help I can't do without my diesel. The issue first started while traveling down the road it would skip at any speed. If it was the TPS why does it shut off in the idle position?

Cleaned the MAP sensor
I cleaned the MAP sensor and it almost completely corrected the engine shutting off. Wouldn't that be a pretty sure bet that the MAP is the problem?
