engine missing

alright, so i noticed again today on my way home that my engine missed???? for a second...

at least i think "missed" is the proper term, it felt like it was dead for a second

ive noticed this before but it is not at all frequent, id say it happens at most maybe once a month and only occurs at idle or when on the highway turning a steady 2300-2500 rpms

any ideas????

thanks in advance
jeff

Re:engine missing

Quantrill -

Mine has done that very same thing for over a year now. I can best describe it as a momentary stutter or cutout..It only lasts an instant..Occurs about once or twice a month..I've ran rv275's, EDM mach 2's, and now DD 2's, and its done it with all three injectors. Its done it with the fuel box on and off..My fuel pressure is fine..I thought it was a vp-44 going, but I ran across another thread over at TDR on this very same problem. It is pretty common from what I read. Several guys have replaced the vp-44 thinking that was the problem, but it still did it. No one has come up with a solution yet that I'm aware of. It seems to be happening to the 2000 and up year models. Everyone describes it as cutting out for just an instant, then its fine again..Like I said, mines done it for the past 50,000 miles, a little more than a year..Some feel it may be related to the ground wire from the TST box, but mines fine. All my connections are good, pressure good, etc..If you find out what it is, let us all know.

Re:engine missing

I realize there is a ton of differences from my 93 to the 00's and up, however one thing is still a problem with diesels is vibration. I would look for loose conections at the inj. pump. Such as fuel shutoff solenoid. :-

Us properly valved guys : don't get one of them there shutoff solenoids.
I'd love to have one though, would make a nice anti theft device.

Re:engine missing

I've got the trigger switch for my fuel pump wired to a hidden switch on my truck. Only reason I have this is cause my fuel pump relay died on my truck.

I have a '99 Quadcab, long box with 970000 mi. and noticed
this over the summer. but just the other day it seems to have gotten worse where it does it every time I accelerate. :'(
I would like to know where to start, in finding the fix for this annoyance. Are replacing injectors hard??

Re:engine missing

Check out this link on the "other" website.
http://www.turbodieselregister.com/f...threadid=80778

There was another link over there that talked about grounding also. But I can't find it right now.

I had an intermittent miss under hard acceleration that seems to have been cured by running the ground from the banks box (bolt on engine) to a better ground.

Good luck

Here is the other link I was referring to.
http://www.turbodieselregister.com/f...threadid=70929

Note on the first link it sounds like the miss would come and go and TMTT believes it was fixed by cleaning his battery terminals.
