Engine light - EGR unplugged / plug it in for recall
I just got in the mail a recall for steering drag link inner joint and damper bracket ... that being said, I have had the egr unplugged since roughly 600 miles, now with 7000 miles, due to going back to the dealer, I plugged the egr back in, did the roughly seven cycle start, the engine light shut it's self off, then today went to fill up diesel, shut the truck off, drove off, then down the road, the engine light appeared again. My question is how do I get it to shut off before I go to the dealer for the recall ? Thank You ! in advance for responding back to me guys.

Without knowing what code is tripped it would be hard to tell what to fix. It may or maynot be related to the EGR plug. Let them tell you what it is.
EGR?? What is that???

A code reader is a good investment. Even many of the inexpensive ones have the ability to clear the check engine light. I'm taking my truck in for the H34 recall in a couple of weeks. Before I go in, I'll just plug the EGR in and clear the CEL. If you do this and the CEL comes on after you plug the EGR in, then you'll know that it's a different problem and can tell the dealer.

I did same thing......had it unplugged and plugged back in and got 2 codes after the light cleared itself they were..p0405 and p0406 both have to do with the EGR. I went to the local advanced auto and they cleared them for me.
