I have been searching all over the forum and on the net. I am looking at buying a 2002 5speed cummins. The salesman said it had the 505 HO engine in it. But I have found information on the net saying that only the 6speed 01-02 came with the HO, but then I have also found that the 2002 SO is the 2001 HO. Without being able to look at the engine (dealer is 1.5 hour away), can someone help me find out what engine is in this truck?

i have a 01 5spd and its a so,as far as i know only the 6spd came with the ho package,is it a full load or a plain jane model?most 6spds were full load models,if your planning on doing any mods the so respond better to some chips and tuners than the ho.and the 5 spd is funner to drive in a modded truck.either way if its a good deal and you like it you wont be disapointed,when you go look at it,do the key on 3 times to check for any codes,it may save you an injector pump,let us know when you look at it,the plate that shows the hp is on the drivers side near the front.

Cool thanks! That makes my day hearing that the SO takes mods better! The truck only has 51000 miles on it. It is in awesome shape, the guy had to sell it because his wife would not drive a stick, so he bought a 06 auto.

the '01 and '02 HO's are exactly the same @ 245hp./505tq. they are only available w/ the 6 spd. 5 spd or auto is a SO. the HO's have a SMALLER injection pump, that is part of the reason they don't respond well to electronic enhancement but they get bigger gains from injectors. DD2's in a SO give 80hp and in a HO give 90hp.

not trying to steal the thread but what is the key on 3 times thing? i just got an 01 and dont know much about it.

without starting the truck...turn key on, off, on, off, on. the odometer will show P PCM (then show codes) P DONE, P ECM (show codes) P DONE. Then the odometer will go back to showing your miles.

when this code check is performed, how can you decipher what the fault codes are?
