Emmissions ????

I have a question about emmisson and you all know what I am talking about. But I am not going to talk about it. But here is the question. The new diesel fuel for the new trucks is supposed to lower the emmisions. Well since we are all forced to use this fuel. Is this going to lower our emmsions on our 3rd gen trucks that came with more emmision standards than other 3rd gen years? If so, would the emmision componets become obsolete since the fuel is different now?

I have to go in for emmissions soon. I've never gone with mods before. Anyone know how much smoke you can blow before failing? Alot, a little?
I have #8 torque plate, and 300 injectors on a 96 auto. Those are the things I have that deal with smoke. I think I'll pass, but I'm curious. They let me do the test, so, I could just not press the peddle really fast or all the way or something..

I just got back from emmissions testing. I passed it all, but they failed me because I don't have a cat. That's dumb. Older and newer trucks don't even come with cats. So, I think someone should manufacture fake cats that just slip on over your exhuast. What am I supposed to do? I put this expesive exhaust on. I don't want to take it off and cut it and stuff. It would also hinder my power and mileage from restriction, correct?

Oh yea, I wasn't even flooring it and I didn't slam the peddle down, because I wanted to make sure I passed. I had to test twice, because I forgot my wallet the first time (thought I had it) and they wouldn't hold the results. In addition, the first attempt on both test came back invalid (their sensors were clogged or something). The 2nd attempts were valid. They said their computer was being bad, basically.

FYI, many CA and a few other state trucks have had Cat's for many years. My 06 has a cat and it's not a CA truck. You will need to see if yours was made with one and if so then to pass you will need to put one on You may want to see if you can get a Dodge build sheet to see if it had one on it from the factory.

drolex, you need to go to "user cp" and fill out your signature so we know what kind of truck you have, year etc. It will help us help you. If your truck is a 96, you may want to ask your question on the 2nd gen 12 valve forums, instead of the 3rd gen forums.

DBLR, All 04.5 on up trucks have the cat converter from the factory for all 50 states.

I can't speak for other states, but Texas only does a "safety" check on Diesels to pass inspection. $12.50. There is no "sniff" test.

I would imagine after 07.5 models get here they will be more restrictive on testing.

Emissions tests are coming....<gulp> NY has them now, and with the ever growing need for a cleaner environment other states are following suit. If the truck came with a kitty, it has to be there, or it fails. Up here they also wont let you drive the truck for the test..."must be performed by a certified technician."

I already know it's supposed to have one. There's a tag under the hood that says so. I just didn't know they were going to check for it before I went. I'm in Arizona near phoenix.

I believe that if something should fall off your truck, it won't pass thier visual inspection even if it passes their emission test, so you'll win one of the pretty stickers with an "R" in the center.

If it passes the emission part, why shouldn't it be OK to run whatever type of system you want. Will our state agree? I bet you know that answer.
