Emergency roadside repair Kit

What brought this up is the article about Bad Fuel in the Badlands. Obviously, when traveling any great distance (outside daily driving range), one should have an extra fuel filter plus the tools to change it, as well as the tools appropriate to crack the injector line if need be. With all the wealth of knowledge floating around on these boards, I would hope that we could come up with a reasonable list of tools and items one should carry with them while on a trip or just out and about in the back country. I know I have the extra fuel filter, but how about other items? I know some who carry an extra lift pump. Would this be something appropriate and is it something that could be changed "roadside". Fishing for suggestions and ideas.

~Dave

When I finish some frame/bumper mods, a highlift jack, come along, chain. I also plan on mods to be able to use air tools. Last owner also left a nice first aid kit, but I need to purge out the bad stuff.

Re:Emergency roadside repair Kit

I carry a box with all the tools necessary to just about rebuild the truck Minus maybe gear pullers and tools of that nature.

I also have a 12 volt impact wrench that actually works and can really speed up a tire change or what ever. I keep antifreeze, oil, filters, quick epoxy that can be squeezed in your hand and applied to plug a leak even in a fuel tank. A length of fuel line and clamps, extra serpentine belt and all kinds of electrical connectors and fuses.

About the only thing I don't carry is extra fuel, I don't think it is worth the hazard it creates. All this goes in a tool box in the back and I feel better knowing it is there.

I have often as not, robbed my supplies to help stranded motorist as well.

Re:Emergency roadside repair Kit

I have a couple gallons of oil, enough for an oil change, a couple extra oil filters, a fuel filter (and tools to replace it with), tarp, haynes manual, bungees, bungee net, ratchet tie downs, and general emergency kit (first aid kit, foul weather gear, lantern, chamois, etc). I can't count the number of times I've needed something in there. I'm glad I'm such a packrat.

-SFB

Re:Emergency roadside repair Kit

Mentioned it once before I think, for you guys with HD bumpers, a highlift jack mounted across the front can become handy and protect the grill if mounted good. Also a spotlight/flashlight, a triangle, flare. If you have an old cell phone, leave it in the car, 911 will still work, but be aware of your location when calling. Most places still cannot track them. A sign that says "call police" for an emergency. Blanket.

Oh yeah.... spare key. Most police do not open locked vehicles anymore. Some windows on new vehicles are tempered and will break easily and if a wire gets pulled on a power lock application, it can short and wipe the computer out. Add fire extinguisher too.
