Electrical Problem

I just noticed that my amp gauge is not reading as normal, I am suspecting battery is not getting the required charge from the alternator. I've had electrical problem before and I hated having to try and locate the problem, last time was a bad ground or the heater grid never actually found the problem. How long is the life for an alternator? If that's the problem it would be an easy fix.

check the voltage at the battery terminals with a multimeter before you get too ahead of yourself.

voltage regulator seems to be the leading cause of charging issues in our trucks by what I've seen posted lately on various forums.
