Electric Trailer Brake Controller
What do you guys consider a good electrice trailer brake controller for hauling trailers <10,000lbs? How about install on an 05, is there a wiring harness that just plugs in under the dash? Need to run any new wires to the rear?
Thanks, R.B.

With my truck, there was an adapter harness in the glove box for a trailer brake controller to be wired to. There was also the round 7-pin connector already mounted in the bumper next to the liscence plate. When I bought my 5th wheel camper the dealer installed the brake controller and 5th hitch, also added a 7-pin connector in the bed of the truck, no brake cable hanging over the tail gate. There should be a point to wire into under the driver side knee board just below the steering wheel. I believe you should not have to run any wiring to the back connector, unless they aren't already installed. The Prodigy is considered one of the best but I think it's personal preference. I'd tell you which one I have but I can't remember right now.

Check out one of the sponsors of this site (their banner add is always flashing the max brake controller). They include the factory wiring for your truck with all sales. Good pricing and wide variety of controllers.

you've basically have inertial controlled or mechanically controlled systems.
for inertia systems... prodigy seems to have the best feedback. have not tried prodigy, but have tried several other tekonsha & haynes inertia controllers. not happy with performance of any inertia controller so far.
there's two types of mechanically controlled systems. folks rave about hydraulic actuated systems. output is proportional to amount of braking force generated. drawback is costs and complexity of installation.
other mechanically controlled system uses a cable attached to brake pedal. made by Jodan, the Ultima is currently not available. folks rave about Jordan controller's performance, as output is directly related to pedal pressure. a major mfg has purchased Jodan and is in the process of tooling up to mass produce.
was fortunate to purchase a Jordan from another forum member. still have not installed Jordan yet.
