What electric fans will fit..........

in a 2001.5, Im talking used from a wrecker,Im sure someone on here has put one in, if so, please tell us from what vehicle did you use the fan from and how did it fit, actually I run fanless from sept to may since new, I probably could run all year without a fan but need air cond in the summer, so thought I would put one of those dual fans in from a car, most have dual fans, so if someone put one on, let us know.

I believe I have read on many different forums that a common swap for hotrods or engine swaps is to use the dual fan out of a ford taurus, apparently they are cheap and flow lots of CFM, try a google search I'm sure you will get lots of hits

A little late but here.

These are two Lincoln Mark VIII fans. Together they move 9 to 10,000 cfm. It took a lot of work to get them to fit, but the pay off is excellent.
Cost about $120.00

Wow...that's a lot of fan. I have one of those I'm planning on trying. I figure I'll try making the underhood air flow more efficient by putting some exit vents on the hood.

Do you have any problems with current draw?

There is a very long thread about the Flexalite making a set up for dodge / Cummins , have you guys looked at that ?
Is this an option , to avoid the high cost of the new kit ?
I do not have the numbers of all [ CFM & cost ] of either , my guess for the kit was something like $500-600 .

i call flexalite and they said their fans are not replacement fans. they said they dont move enough CFM. They are simply an assist fan to help keep coolant temps down while towing. so you dont have to gear down for rpm on the cooling fan

I havent had any problems so far. Even while running both fans the headlights and a/c. If I ever do I'll just get a bigger alternator.
Only problem I ran into was that the water tank for the wipers wont fit and the overflow tank for the radiator wont fit either. I am going to have to make some mounting brakets for them. I had originally tried to use the parts of the shroud that held them, but it wont fit anymore. I am sure I can make some brackets that will work.

I did this because I pull heavy loads at slow speeds off road and the stock fan isnt running fast enough off road. So I needed something that would move some air. I checked out the internet and the most powerful fan I could find was the Lincon Mark VIII fan. They supposedly move anywhere from 4,500cfm to 5,000 cfm. Two of them together - thats a lot more than the Flex a lite kit and equal to the stock fan. And this only ran me around $120.00 maybe a little more.

I like your setup! Those fans are 18" in diameter? I've seen those 16" electric fans on ebay that claim they move up to 2500 CFM. I was thinking two of those might work fine for someone who doesn't tow heavy. Any other issues you've run into converting to electric fans? I've thought about going electric myself without using the Flex-a-Lite fans but didn't really know what other fans would work.

Oh and do you have them set up so they come on by themselves at a certain temp? If so, how? Or do you have it mounted on a manual switch?

Thanks.

Not sure of the info , but from going back & looking at the specs. , the Flexalite moved 5,500 CFM & the stock fan moved 8,500 .

I did a similar set up on my last truck 3/4 ton GMC with a 6.2 turbo. The fans came from a mid 90's Camaro and I built the mounting frame off of a set up my buddy built for his truck. flex a lite makes a thermostat set up for the do it your self guy cost about $45 Canadian plus 2 12 volt 5 pin relays was all it took to have a reliable set up. On my buddies truck he hauled an double axle trailer with a 64 Buick Riviera across Canada, plus the truck was loaded down as well with no problems at all. I'm comparing apples to oranges with the 6.2 and Cummins but the thermostat would work for both. The kit suggests putting the thermo probe through the radiator fins to sense temp what we did was tape it to the lower rad hose to get a more accurate reading.

I have one on a thermostat (fan on high) and the other on a switch (fan on slow). I dont like the idea of the fan going off/on off/on off/on with the a/c so I just turn it on when I run the a/c. I just used a mechanical thermostat switch from Advance auto parts (around $20.00). Most of the time one of the fans cools the truck just fine.
As for the ebay fans - I had two of those on my truck. They were supposed to move 3,500 cfm each. I dont think they did, but they worked fine for driving around and towing around 5,000 lbs. If your not going to tow they will be fine.

Thanks for the reply. Do you have a link to the ebay auction with the previous fans you had? I can't seem to find any that are rated at 3500 cfm.

Look for a Zirgo 16" 3,000 cfm fan. I looked at those on ebay and they look like the ones I had. I know they were Zirgo fans. Maybe the guy I bought them from embellished a little. They worked fine, but I would check and make sure that the blade is connected snug on the motor shaft.

I went back and tried agan. This is probably it. Except I didnt buy one with a switch.
