EGT way to hot

Wondering if it was normal for EGT to change very quickly? My 94 CTD with a #6 plate and 3k GSK, stock pipe size (straight piped) with a k&N drop in filter will go from 600 just cruising around and if I floor it for more than 2-3 seconds the temp will climb about as fast as the guage can accomidate I end up backing off at 1350 but I am sure it would go way past 1400. Is this normal? If not what can I do to try to calm down the exessive temps without going out and spending huge money. If I baby the truck it stays right around were it should 600-800 just normal driving.
Help
Thanks
Evan

Check for boost leaks and slipped injection timing. Otherwise thats pretty normal. I can get mine up there in about that amount of time.
Keep an eye on boost too, you dont want to go over 38psi

He is right, those would be the biggest two culprits. When I advanced my timing it was only at 8* So advancing it to 18* dropped my EGT's about 400* or so at WOT.

I mean If I hold WOT for 5 seconds the boost flys up to about 35 and the temps go with it, but they don't reach above 1100 IIRC

I was wanting to get it retimed because I think it might have slipped since the fuel economy is kinda bad. I just have to find someone local to do it. The closest preformance shop is about 2 hours away. Hopefully that will take care of alot of my issues.

With my 97 ctd in my sig, if I hold wot for 4-5 seconds, wether from a dead stop or 20 mph, I can hit 1700* FAST!!!!!!!! I have a stock pump and turbo with a k&n drop in filter. I can get 38 lbs of boost, and I have gotten to 1775* before. I have the wastegate elbow on from tst. I have not touched the timing.

With a 10 plate and DV's in my 95 i could peg my 1600 deg pryo REALLY quickly , now with a boost elbow , air intake , exhaust , and timing , it levels off around 1100 deg under full power.

You're also running a bigger pump, so you're already ahead of the game with fuel over a 94.

Evan, we have the same pump, sounds like you need to up the timing to 15-16.

I ran the #6 plate on the stock inj, turbo, dv for years, and on hills I could get it to 900 cruising. 600-700 flat.

On the dynojet I made 239 hp, 525 ft lbs. I didn't have the timing done yet, and had a bad lift pump, overflow valve, i would problably made 250 if i went back after fixing stuff.

1200 is easy to get to on the stock turbo with #6, even after I did the timing it helped a little, though it'll take a good WOT run and top gear, going pretty fast to boot. EGT's were better after the retime, little slower to move up.

I can hit 28lbs then it would back down to 25lbs of boost.

i didnt see if you put in a boost elbow.... if youre adding more fuel, you need more air. 30-35psi is the ticket for me. i can hold it almost wot up a whole mountain and never get above 1250. it usually goes back down once i build full boost. good luck
