egr unplug

I just unpluged my egr and was wondering what the pluses are on getting a block-off plate. With it un pluged will it still put soot back into the intake.

thanks,
Dayton

Btw, My girlfriens dad has an '08 6.7L, if he unplugs it, will he always though a code or will it go off after a while.

thanks,
Dayton

As car as the CEL always being on... no, it will not go out as long as the EGR is unplugged. I've had mine unplugged since last September and I've managed to get used to it always being on.

There are some who have said that blocker plates do in fact do a better job than just unplugging it. Others have said that they make little if any difference. I unplugged mine just after going in for the drill and tap of the turbo to remedy the dreaded P2262 code and now I'm due for the 50,000 mile EGR valve cleaning. I'm going to be sure to find out exactly how dirty it is since it's been unplugged since being cleaned. This should be the best test yet as to whether there are advantages to the blocker plates or not. I'm taking the truck in on Friday afternoon for the dash silencer recall and to have the latest flash updates and the EGR cleaning done. Will report my findings after that date.
