Edge on my truck?

Ok to be honest with you guys I know nothing about diesel engines and am more of a Hotrod kind of guy since I own a 1976 Plymouth Duster for my hobby car. But I sit here and read how much you guys like your trucks and like the chips you put on them. I am 19 years old and have a heavy foot. I want a good chip that is easy to install in my driveway and will have no problems with blowing up my tansmission. I was looking at this one http://www.dieselperformanceparts.co....pl/dieselshop
what do you guys think? Do you think I will be happy with this, also will it cause me any problems (keep in mind the heavy foot). Also I kinda like the black smoke and was wondering will this chip make my truck smoke a considerably much more or not? Also I have a 2004.5 White SRW 3500 with 4.10's also I cut the muffle off so but left the cat on. So pretty much a stock truck but shortly after or probably more than likely before I get the chip I will get gauges.

You won't be happy with a chip on your truck unless you like having 100-150 extra rwhp and 200-400 extra rwtq!!
There are several boxes out there and the only thing I can recommend is to think about what you will want in the future and get that box now. Meaning, you could get the cheapest box, like an EZ, now and you will like it but then you will read about the TST which gives a whole lot more power but costs a good bit more. You then start thinking about selling the EZ to get the TST but you lose a bunch of $$ on that deal and the price of the TST will have gone up by then so you lose more money. Ask me how I know this scenario!!!!!!
The higher HP boxes are great because they make much more power than your truck can safely handle unless you start upgrading it so as you do you just continue to adjust to the higher settings. From what I've read the 600s will make some smoke when you add just about all of the boxes so your choices are wide open. My 03 SO makes minimal smoke and I'm on level 5 on the EZ. I'm a motorhead too but my goal was to make my truck haul my trailer with ease and I have accomplished that so I'm trying to just be happy with what I have. The problem is that it's tough seeing that I could be making another 100hp and 200tq by adding a TST box...

Well I my truck smokes a little bit now and it is stock. I mean it doesn't smoke much just enough for me to see it in my mirror and to leave black soot on my bumper. Also with the edge box the thing is I just want something that I will not be going through trannies and other counter parts. I have to many other toys to be messing up my 40XXX dollar truck like my duster I just dropped four grand into for the new motor. I am also looking at an 89 Dodge cummins in my town for sale for 1500 dollar to turn into a pulling truck. It's just I want a little something extra to put on my truck and not do any harm to any other things and was thinking that this might be right for me. So with all that in mind do you guys think that I will be happy with edge knowing that I don't want to go through transmissions and other stuff and just want a little edge over other trucks. I mean my truck being stock right now and all my buddies have diesel pickups and not one of them can really touch me right now and my truck is stock and some of them have 150 horsepower chips on thier trucks but most of them do drive Fords. Another question if I got this chip is it pretty safe just to run on level 3 all the time or do you just put it on level 3 when you need it?

I kinda want to get a decent amount of horsepower but want to have a decent amout of smoke. At least enough for everybody behind me to notice it so do you think I am on the right track with this chip or not? This will probably be the only performance mod I do on my truck seeing as I am only looking for a little bit more power.

I dont think a different chip will get you more smoke and the edge is an excellent product smoke is cool but it is due to an unefficient burn. I know the power pup will provide you with a little cloud but you will need the outlook monitor with it to change settings on the go. In cab adjustability hope this helps

Kman9090, I think the Edge Juice/Attitude combo just released for the 04.5's would be something to look seriously at. In cab adjustability, twenty or so minute install (not counting the EGT probe, which is a one time thing), senses TC slippage and defuels. You can also set max boost and EGT temps for defueling. You can view other parameters via the attitude monitor, but I wish fuel pressure was one of them. Talk to Mark at DPPI. I'm very pleased with their price and service, plus they have a custom mount that attaches the attitude to the grab handle that looks OEM.

Good Luck!

Kman9090,

Give us a shout, we have the Edge EZ or Juice Attitude as well as van Aaken's products for the 2003+ trucks. We also just got the Attitude mounts in yesterday, they are color matched and keep your grab handle in place on the A pillar, very very nicely done product. We also GUARANTEE all of our product prices, go to our site and we have a write up on that if you want.

Kman,

You should look seriously at the Juice/Attitude. We put one on my buddies '05 DRW and we couldn't get the silly grins off our face. His truck is stock except for an Airaid. It's not the highest HP box out there but what is refreshing is the "safety" features built in to the Juice or the Attitude. All I can say is that I have my money underneath the mattress for the day it comes out for the '03's!!

Hope this helps
