Edge EZ reliability

Ok guys, I have the option to buy a used Edge that came off from a 2001 HO and the guy said it worked when he took it off and I am assuming hes selling it because it wont fit a 2002 but I'm not sure exactly. I offered him $165.00 and he said he would take it and I was kinda unsure how reliable these things are. Like do you think hes trying to get rid of it because its broken or just doesn't care because $165 sounds kinda cheap to me. What do you guys think?

Also what are the settings again for this because I am still worried it will hurt my stock transmission. I figured I could put it on the lowest setting at least until I get some guages and see how the tranny holds you know? I am really worried about this hurting my tranny or anything because I can't afford to fix costly things on my truck. But I really want some added power.

I have heard different stories from different people saying that their EZ didnt hurt their tranny but then other say it did hurt their stock tranny. I know mine has been into the shop once before in 99 so I hope they fixed anything that was wrong with it then.....seems to shift good now, kinda hard sometimes.

So for that price should I get it?

Re:Edge EZ reliability

The price is right. I paid 300.00 for my used EZ and I thought that was a deal. I also bought it from someone I trusted. Remember "BUYER BEWARE". I have had mine on for almost a year and have had no problems. Good Luck.

Re:Edge EZ reliability

I would get at least a valve body upgrade if your going to start modifying your truck.

The EZ will eventually takes it toll on your stock tranny.

Re:Edge EZ reliability

The guy also told me that he is sure it worked when it came off the truck so I dont see why it wouldnt. How long are we talking before it takes a toll on my tranny...just a guess. I have 81,000 miles on it now.

For that price, I think I will buy it anyway and resell it if I don't use it or something you know.

heres a pic if it helps.

Re:Edge EZ reliability

for that price I would have to go for it and take a chance. I bought mine used and it is fine. I can't help you about the tranny because mine is a manual but I would recommend guages, at the minumum a fuel pressure guage even on a stock truck-especially when pumping more fuel like the EZ does. I have a friend who runs one on his auto and has had it on over 30K with no troubles but he doesn't tow much. It shifts hard sometimes but it did that before the EZ too so who knows.

You said the box is from an 01, but you have a 98 in your signauture. The connections are different on those two trucks. 01-02 have the same style connectors.

Re:Edge EZ reliability

not too sure about this but I have heard there is a patch cord you can buy from Edge to adapt it to your truck. I heard it is about $30 which would still make your deal a great one....just a thought. The EZ is worth getting imho. I wouldn't want to be without mine now that I'm used to the extra power.

Re:Edge EZ reliability

Actually, the 01 and 02 plugs are different. I had to get an adapter from Edge because I have a 01 EZ. It was $20, and it came direct from Edge. I don't know if there is an adapter for 01-98, but most likely there is. I'd call Edge and see.

Re:Edge EZ reliability

Alot of times the Edge boxes will work on the trucks where the model year does not match.

I run an 01 Custom comp on my truck, works fine (99 here).
Also, I have seen people hardwire 01 ez's on 99's and work fine.

Good luck!

I'd try mailing them. Its hard to get someone there on Sunday I guess, I tried calling to ask for you but had no luck.
Their email is brett@edgeproductsinc.com
I know my friend bought an adapter from an 01 to his 98 but can't remember the price for sure.

Re:Edge EZ reliability

Ok, so I bought it but I am wondering if there is anyway to test it before I pay the $30+ for the adapter especially if it doesnt work. I may be able to find a person with a 2000 or 2001 truck but what if I cant? Is there anyway? Thanks
