ECM bypassed

The previous owner bypassed the ECM, od and grid heaters are on toggle switches, with an external voltage regulator. I have a replacement ECM that I would like to install. My question is , if the crank sense is good( it is adjusted properly and all wiring seems to be intact) can I just swap the ecms and reconnect the wiring? Is there a way to test the crank sensor before ingot through the trouble?

Thanks
