Dyno'd my 05 today
I did a couple of runs, trying to see what was best, but since you can't lock out OD, I did them in OD. The dyno I used is a dynojet -something-. They said it can handle 1,800hp. They didn't have an optical pickup for diesels, so there is no torque information, but they said since they teamed up with a local Diesel guy, he's going to buy one and it will be in within the next month or so. If anyone has a 48re on stock tires with 3.73's, lemme know the RPM at 100mph. Anyhow, the #'s
I told them to shut it down at 100mph, because I don't know where the govenor is, but:
Run 1 in OD:
84.93F, 29.55 in/hg, SAE 1.01, SF 5
278.61 @ 99.9MPH
Run2 in OD
89.15F, 29.53 in/hg. SAE 1.02, SF 5
278.11 @ 99.9mph
After the dyno session, I went to a mufflershop and had them chock the stock cat, which is gargantuan by every meaning of the word. He said if he knew anything about exausts, that cat costs over 700 dollars new, and made sure to cut it with 2" of pipe on each side to put it back on if need arises. From what I can tell, the exaust at the muffler is hotter, which means less heat being held in by the cat, turbo spools harder and a bit sooner now, but nothing extraordinary. Finally, it smells like diesel instead of propane out of the exaust pipe.
I also ended up purchasing the Bullydog downloader instead of the TST box, and come Monday or Tuesday, I'm going to have dyno sheets showing stock power, stock without cat, stock without cat and no filter, and bullydog w/ and w/o filter. I'll get an intake pretty soon, but that's a few weeks away. Let me know if my #'s are in line with everyone elses. The truck had 750miles on it.

Those numbers are good. They seem better than the 04.5's. Most of those go about 260 HP. I had an 03 go 278 stock. It had the 305 engine though.
Sounds like you have a good one.

Well I'm glad I got a "good one". I was surprized how hard it pulled on the rollers all things considered. On Tuesday, definetly, I'll get dyno sheets of the aforementioned mods in different setups with the BullyDog. I have a feeling the cat is going to be good for a few more ponies for sure, as well as lower egt's, quicker spool time, and better mpg. I'm going to get a 4" Magnaflow muffler installed for a **** good price, as looking at the stock muffler, it seems pretty restrictive. For those pondering removal of the cat on the 05's, idle sounds the same, but a bit more "throaty", but not louder at all. As far as WOT, it seems a small bit louder, hardly noticable from inside the cab. I cannot tell you how loud it is from outside the cab, as I'm the only one that drives this vehicle. I'll probably get crazed in my search for more HP, and since I'm on the dyno I might just have to disconnect the muffler and see how much HP I get from that. I'll stop posting now as I'm sure I've rambled enough.

They didn't have an optical pickup for diesels, so there is no torque information

I dyno'd mine with a set of aftermarket tire and wheels with an intake kit on it and I put out 275HP and 515TQ when I had mine done.

Well the BullyDog Downloader came in today. First map I loaded was the 90hp one
I can't say anything but good things about it, since I don't have my gauges installed yet. It ROASTS the tires, and lets out a nice plume of black smoke when you get on it. I'll get some video for you guys tommorow. All I can say is the throttle response with the 90hp program is AWESOME. I wanted to see if I'd smoke at idle, so I floored it then let off as fast as I could, it reached the rpm limiter, and sat there for 2-3 seconds. I was kinda worried, but not too much. It smokes reving it from idle. I'll have dyno charts for lots of different things on the truck, but I'm guessing around 370whp with the 90hp program, and 420 with the 130hp program. I realize that's a good 50hp increase instead of 40, but from what I've read, that's what I'm expecting
I'll post the vids tommorow, paperplates and all

First-- this Forum is awsome!!! I have been looking and finally found one.
After I purchased my truck I gutted the cat. Over at Edge the dyno was 1-2 HP more without the cat. Not a big difference, but after I gutted mine I saw a 100 degree drop. The cat holds a ton of heat, keeping a muffler will give you just the right amount of back pressure you need. It definatly gives a great sound, if you can take the sound in the cab. I have recieved plently of complements of how it sounds.
