duramax comparison????
My father inlaw bought a new 04 duramax and he was really bragging about it. How do they compare to the dodge in pulling power. My dodge is modified and pulls like nothing I have ever seen before is the duramax a better performer pulling I know it is rated more HP but does not have the torque that the cummins does. ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

My dad tows with his with no complaints however he has a hot juice on it to make it more driveable to his likeing. I have driven it they really haul off the line due to the aliston's really low gearing.

Re:duramax comparison????
LOL mine or a stock one? Mine its no contest. But concider Im around 460+ RWHP some say more no dyno's around! Anyways stock dodge second gen and a stock duramax my dads would pull my butt all over town. Even a dodge with an EZ from what I have seen will struggle with a D-Max. Now for my opinion I have EDM 2's edge Comp scotty 2 4" exhaust PDR 40 full DTT trans. My dad only has a hot juice box which is 120 HP. I kill it pretty good along with a ford in town a buddy has that has propane injectors the hottest chip you can run turbo upgrades some goofey peddlet that makes the power come on sooner. I dunno a slue of other stuff and I give it to him to. Im not sure what you are after but to me a mildy modded dodge will make huge power for around 3 grand thats pretty descent thats what made me choose my truck in the first place.

Re:duramax comparison????
To me the duramax is a good truck, but I question for how long, where there isn t really a question with the dodge....I think most d maxes will be off the road or beat to death before 200000 miles....where there are dodges going strong and getting bombed at 200k.
I ve got about 16k total in my truck (truck and mods) and I d guess its more reliable then 99% and makes more power then 90% of everything else thats even close to comparable....

Re:duramax comparison????
A few weeks ago when I was back in Michigan on vacation, I had stopped by an old neighbor to say hi, and had my brothers 34' Scarab hooked up. Bill saw the Dodge, asked how I liked it, and went on and on about his son-in-laws new Duramax and how smooth and fast it was; how that Allison is the greatest (Which I don't doubt).
I held out the keys. He jumped at the chance to take it for a spin, boat included. I told him no throttle, just let the clutch out and go. He had a HUGE ear-to-ear grin, giggling and mumbling like it was like "the old gravel-trains" he used to drive years ago. He added that he couldn't wait to tell his SIL about it.
I've had this truck almost a year now, and it still gives me that goofy grin every time I drive it.

Re:duramax comparison????
A buddy of mine has a stock Max, and it is the best driving truck I have ever driven. My dads stock dodge is a joke in comparison. Then again its the old apples and oranges comparison. They have a winning combination in their camp. Thats just my opinion. Some will differ.

I test drove a Chevy 2500HD xcab LT with the Dura/Allison. I like the engine/tranny but once it hits OD performance was kind of flat. But, just like my '98 Chevy, the interior has squeaks and rattles, and the cab flexed to much.
Needless to say I was more impressed with the Dodge/Cummins.

Re:duramax comparison????
Mom and dad went looking for new trucks this weekend. Looked at a Dmax/Allison and an 03 HO/Auto Cummins. Test drive them both. Said the Dodge felt a lot stronger than the Dmax. Said it really pulled hard.

I figure the Dmax is a good engine. The truck is just too ugly. I would have looked at the Chev when I bought my Dodge but could not stomach looking at that angry truck in the laneway. Around here mostly older gentlemen buy the dmax. Work trucks are Dodge and Fords. That should tell you something.

Re:duramax comparison????
Yeah but I had a few high mileage Ford diesels (not the 6.0 POS) and never busted an engine. Now if you wanna talk oil leaks....
For sure the CTD is a medium duty engine, but to say the Duramax will be weaker in a pickup truck is a bit of a stretch IMO

Re:duramax comparison????
I think it depends on what your doing with the truck as well. A daily driver that runs around unloaded all the time and lives life as a commuting vehicle is a lot different that a tow vehicle thats towing 30+ foot trailers all day long.

Yep I totally agree. I chatted one day with a driver over the CB. He had a 10 year old tractor with over 1.5 million on it and no major work. He hauled furniture for 8 of the 10 years so the tractor hardly saw weight. Compare this to mixer trucks which cook engines at 150 or 200k. (again 10 years old)

I agree spots-I went in to look at the chevys and told the salesman it was the ugliest truck I ever saw. The GMC's are decent looking though. Then I got inside. POS. Then I looked at the Dodges ;D, it was all over. I love knowing that my motor is built like a brick outhouse, I don't race it, I work it. Pulled a 30 foot flatbed Ford out of the mud today in the driving rain, the thing must've weighed ,well, I dunno A LOT. I swear to you I could hardly tell my truck was working. Unbelievable. I'm so proud of my BEAUTIFUL BLACK TRUCK.
...how could chevy have let something that looks like that actually get made?
