Dually wheels bent???

I took my wheels in to be balanced and was told that all my wheels are bent. They showed me on the balancer that they are slightly out side to side. They told me that they rarely see steel dually pick up size wheels that are not bent. I bought the truck uses, so I do not know what would have caused the wheels to get bent. Not sure I want to know, either.

Has anyone seen problems with their dually wheels being bent??? ???

I have to comment on this one, went through it for a while. It takes a special adaptor to balance these. the dually hub center is stamped, only one side is true, the rest of the hole is tapered as the punch made it. Using a cone on a balancer will not mount them true. I replaced two wheels for nothing, they are still good.

The only place that I can get my dually aligned and balanced services OTR tractors also. They told me the same thing about the adapter. Haulin in Dixie has it straight. Mine ride very smooth for the abuse they get. Also, if they start feeling out of balance, check to make sure you have not filled up the center with a big clump of mud. I do not even run the skins now because of that.

Re:Dually wheels bent???

Thanks for the information. They did use the tapered adapter to mount the wheels to the balancer. I would think that the tapered adapter would be the correct choice when balancing a dually wheel since the wheel is centered on the axle by the center hole. Unlike car wheels that are centered by the tapered lug nuts and do not need to rely on the center hole.

Re:Dually wheels bent???

I balance 1 ton wheels and tire's at work every day....We even balance 19.5 wheels on our balancer without problems....once in a great while I'll come onto a bent rim then we have a stock of rims so its ez to just replace it

Because our trucks go over curbs and off road I am surprised I don't see more bent rims then I do

Maybe theres a difference between GM wheels and Dodge wheels since our fleet is all GM.....but I have used GM wheels on my Dodge they are interchangeable

What would be a good place to take duallys to be balanced?

BTW, what is a fair price for mount/balance?

I assume local tire places hate people bringing their tires that they bought online to be mounted/balanced there... but the price difference is $20/tire excluding mount/balance costs AFTER shipping (and no sales tax). Any suggestions or just deal with it and have them deal with it too?
