I wasn't sure if the two were the same once the dually fenders were off (besides all the holes).

I'm thinkin the fender openings are cut wider, but never did a side by side comparison.

yes and no.
the reg bed side is just that and the dually bed side is pre punched for the fender bolts as for the wheel opening being larger i don't think it is. but a regular can be used if that is what you are asking. you will just need to take the time to line it up and drill the holes for the fender bolts.

I'm wanting to do the opposite.....take a dually bed and make it a regular bed if the fender openings are the same

I've seen a couple of pictures of a dually bed with the Wheelboxes removed.
The wheelwell openings ARE cut larger, and the fuel filler area is also cut out larger (it looked as if a sawzall was used by a guy with the Monday-Morning shakes)
Didn't look like something the average DIY bodyman could repair in a weekend in the garage.
If you're interested in converting to a dually, there are often whole beds (bed, wheelboxes, tailgate, lights & harness) for sale for cheap at local utility body retailers in your area.
Also I see them pretty regularly on diesel website Classified sections.

The dually bed is different than the rest, the hole for the fuel filler is very large and the holes for the fenders are pre drilled. I have a decent dually bed for sale if thats what your looking for. I have an ad with pics on here i think, i havent been on in quite awhile.
