Dtc P2149, Need Help
This evening on the way home the cel came on then as I tried to accelerate there was no power. While I was waiting on the tow truck I checked for dtc's and got 2. A po483, cooling fan rationality check error and p2149, fuel injector group "b" supply voltage circ/open. I would imagine that the p2149 is the issue here. Does anyone know what this means and what the fix may be? Thanks.

Well I've done some research here and called a few places. Talked to a diesel perf shop close by and he thinks it is most likely a short in the wiring. I am not comfortable doing elec diagnosis and he told me if I do something wrong I could fry the computer. So I have checked the 2 connectors from harness to the valve cover gasket and they look fine. Pulled the valve cover to check the connections to the injectors and they are tight. So tomorrow I will try a new gasket and if that doesn't work I'll tow it to a dealer.
Next question is, if there is a bad injector should I have "it" replaced and hope another one doesn't go bad or replace all six? 126k on the truck. If I were to replace all 6, where would I get them. I would think that aftermarket would be less expensive than oem. I would consider a small perf improvement but not anything extreme. There is a Cummins shop in town. I need this truck to last. Tired of new truck payments every 4-5 yrs like I have been doing.

Here is a tech bulletin that I found
Case Number K30540141
Vehicle Issue MIL and the engine runs rough. P2146 or P2149 are logged.;No wiring problems such as a chafed or shorted wire are found per P2146 / P2149 diagnostics. The diagnostic procedures lead to replacing the Cummins ECM.
System or Component Engine Misfire,Rough / Unstable / Erratic Idle,Lack of Power / Sluggish;DTC / Error Message;Yes - Continuously
Recommendation One at a time, disconnect both wires from each injector and insulate the terminal ends so the circuit will not short to ground on the effected bank (1-3 for P2146 or 4-6 for P2149). Clear the codes and start the engine, check if the same code resets. If an injector is disconnected and the code does not reset, replace that injector.

How does one check the wiring in the gasket? I have pulled the cover and checked the connection of the wires from the gasket to the injectors. the connections are good.

2149 is a number that I won't forget...brings back being broke down in Salt Lake on the way to California. I replaced the valve cover gasket first, seemed to be the fix. Then broke down again 100 miles later...injector #4. All up, an good, honest mechanic in Utah (of course) fixed me up for $825 (gasket and injector plus 2 hours labor). Hope you get it back tomorrow and never see 2149 again!

Out the door is about 525.00. Seams to be reasonable since the injector alone is 360. I was going to replace the valve cover gasket until I talked with the shop and decided just to let them have at it in the interest of my time. I called a couple of dealerships to get pricing on the gasket, 250.00!!!!! Called the cummins shop and got a price of 96.00. Wow! I can understand a 50% increase for the part from the dealer, but 150% is rediculous.
Oh, and the injector is another thing. I asked the shop if he could get the injector from a dealer rather than his usual parts supplier so I could get on the road today. It would have increased the cost 300.00. His price is 360 and the dealer is 635, cummins or the bosch store is 450. I guess I was fortunate to have landed at this shop.
