DSS or Thuren track bar?

I am thinking of puting new shocks on my truck along with a couple of other parts (not dealing with suspension) and a DSS.

However I have done no research on the DSS, and other than it tightening up the front end and makin the components last longer I still dont know much about it.

However I was lookin on Don Thurens web site to see if he had one and I was looking at his adjustable track bar.

And since I have a leveling kit and will be runnin 35" mud tires I was wondering wich ( the DSS or track bar) would be a better mod to install with my shocks?

Thanks for any help

Also I guess the SSSS is the same thing as a DSS so that is an option too.

The DSS and SSSSS is essentially the same thing. There's another one out there, too, but the name escapes me right now...

I'm planning on getting both. Even stock I can hear a clunk in my steering column, and I think it's from some looseness in the front end.

If I had to pick one, I'd probably go with the track bar. It will let you move the axle back to center, lessening the need for an alignment after a lift. Since you already have the truck lifted (and I'm assuming aligned) perhaps the DSS/SSSSS is a better option.

I've heard more dramatic results from the DSS/SSSSS install than from the track bar install. Additionally, the SSSSS will relocate your sway bar down, similar to the position given by the sway bar spacers provided with some popular suspension systems. The DSS does not. To get back factory geometry you would have to buy end links with a DSS.

Sorry I'm not too much help...

I have absolutely no experience with Don Thuren's stuff. However, I can tell you that DSS on a stock front end with oversized tires is the cat's meow.

The front end was sloppy right from the dealer. Upgrading my tires made it worse. Adding the DSS made the front end tighter than when the truck rolled off the lot. I'm very happy with it.

Extra stuff me be required once leveling kits are involved.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I might also add that I am very, very happy with the way my truck rides and dirves, no shake shimmy or slop, but if it can be improved and make the front end components last longer that is great.

The front end is alligned.

JCleary, you are sayin the SSSSS is a better option then the DSS, correct?

I think I'd go with thuren's track bar before the DSS, but I haven't seen anyone around here running one, so I can't really compare the two. That being said, I know a few people running Thuren stuff, and they all love it.

Good choice. Thuren makes good stuff... Thats not to say that you couldn't possibly use the DSS system with Don's trackbar, but I am not sure you will need to.

I am running Thuren’s steering and track bar with Defiant dual steering stabilizer and soon Defiant sector support. Can’t beat Don Thuren & Paul Fox’s customer service.

I have Dons trac bar and steering stabilizer. Eliminated the front end vibration at hiway speeds. Thuren produces excellent stuff.

I plan on installing the Thuren Track Bar in the near future. I already have the KORE Leveling and KORE Single Steering Stabalizer. Next will be the steering box support and end links.

Defiant has a sweet sector support bracket...kind like the DSS but it's made out of flat plate, and the pillow block/adapter nut sits on top of the flange instead of underneath. That way if anything comes loose, you can't lose it.

Like Matt said, can't go wrong dealing with Paul Fox, great guy. Spent an hour or so hanging out in his shop the other day.....

wap, if your truck is aligned and you're not having DW issues, get the sector support first. Don's track bars are more readily available than they used to be.

Best to head off the most expensive potential problem first.....

Hung out a bit with Don today in the desert, and got a close up look of Defiant's sector shaft support. Don's running one on his truck and it looks real good, real low profile. That's the one I would get.

And like Cowhand said, if you're not getting death wobble and your steering still feels tight get the support first and lengthen the life of that expensive steering box.

My defiant sector shaft support will be installed tomorrow. Looks really easy to install and has a nice low profile.

I'm not saying one is better than another...

Just that the SSSSS will lower your sway bar if you don't have that done already.

I'll probably go with the Defiant (unless Thuren has his own-I'm getting all my suspension goodies from Don here shortly) because I want to use sway bar links. I don't like the idea of dropping the sway bar down, but that's just me...

I can't wait for Don to revavle my Fox 2.5's and send me all the other goodies we talked about
