Replaced a leaky rear axle hub seal and re lined the drum brakes. Geez I sure hate doing drum brakes. Anyone know of a good tutorial on the real world smart way to re assemble a drum brake assembly? I am sure there is a better technique than my curse and struggle style.

Friend owned a shop. Lay a clean rag under the wheel. Disassemble brake. Don't just let it fall apart. Lay each piece down on the rag in the position that it goes back.

Reassemble in order that it comes apart. Leave other side intact so you have something to look at if you have questions. This ***/u/me/s that the previous idiot that worked on it put it together correctly.

Did you swap in GM 1 ton cylinders while you had it apart?

No, didn't use the Chevy cylinders,used stock replacements. I do remove carefully and assemble on floor with all springs etc. It isn't the part location that I have trouble with. More like the holding in place and fiddling with springs and such. I did one following the Hayes manual, installing one shoe at a time. Second I had the star wheel and bottom spring assembled with both shoes as a unit.... still was a pain in the but. I would like to watch a brake pro dis and re assemble to see how it is done!
