Driving around and had an idea!

While doing a test drive after working on the truck, I had an idea. Porbably should look into patents and make money but money aint every thing to me. I am out to help myself and others if possible. Yuh, I know :'( or toot toot! Suggetsion on the lift pump/low fuel psi and VP44 failures. Here goes, in the navy I work with all kinds of hydraulics, fuels, control actuators etc. I am constantly checking what we call the delt-P across filters and such. Basically it is a gauge set up to calculate the differnce between inlet and outlet PSI/Hg over a filter or whatevre you need. I also work on some that have transducers(4-20 miliamp) or detroit switch that sense this change and send an alert to some controler or another. So many possibilties and very inexpensive to setup. Kinda like a cool down timer(ingenious by the way). ;D Granted it is one more place for leaks, elctrical problems or the false sense of security that other idiot lights give you but! any thoughts on this or has it already been done. If anyone wants to work this with me, I can set up the electrical noproblem and have some ideas on the mechanical side to, just a lack of mech experience(sizes, terms and such). :

Re:Driving around and had an idea!

Essentailly this is what a lot of guys already do. They measure fuel pressure before and after the filter and either have a switch to select between the 2 readings or they use a guage with dual indicators. Either method will show you the differential pressure across the filter, giving you an idea if it is plugged or not.

Re:Driving around and had an idea!

Give a guy his due! ;D I was trying to be inventive and get a pat on the back. You know my ego is in need of a boost after some of my brain farts at work and then at home working on my truck. Take head out of rear and engage the gray matter. Sorry about that, I am somewhat on a pitty pot. Can't figure out a truck problem and my wife called in the middle of my work to tell me she got a shot off on her first deer of the season. Tracking it now and hopefully I'll be eating some tender loins and laughing about my crappy day today. Seriously though, thanks for keeping me grounded and getting back so quick. Maybe somebody will want to try something new and this post might help. Keep the respnses cummin(pun intended).

Re:Driving around and had an idea!

Started off by reading my own post and decided to do some more research. Found a couple of fuel boxes and performance chips that are doing most of my ideas, just a little more scientifically. Oh well, gotta keep movin'. Had a better day and read the rest of your replies to this topic. Must admit, I was being fairly lame yesterday with all that hogwash. Even still you guys posted and I appreciate the efforts. Just more proof that even the toughest, roughest of men can show a more sensitive side. Scary aint it! ;D One last thing before I go. I have never had a detroit switch go bad on it's own, only those that were messed with by unqualified hands. I exagerate a little but they are fairly reliable in my opinion.
