So I got a 0216 code and 2 second dead petal while driving on hot day pulling trailer. I will be replacing vp 44 on wednesday but need to drive it about 250 miles today. It does not have dead petal now. How long has anybody drove on 0216 code. I realize it is somewhat of a gamble. However the temps have cooled and I am not pulling a load. Am I crazy to do this?

 

i drove about 1500 miles with my 0216 then seized the rotor in the pump cauzing the keyway to shear had to pull gear cover off and cut the ip gear off and had to pay core charge. best bet is to change it before it dies so u definatly will get your core charge back, and wont get stranded anywhere. it can and will grenade at some point.

 

I drove 8 months with a P0216 code. Then finally swapped it. Mine never seized. But it ran like 10 lbs of carp in a 5 lb bag by the end/

 

Seized pumps are very rare. Only one I've ever had do that was one of those lovely "REMAN IN CZ" pumps we had years ago. I've seen truck go a long ways on 0216's......and some, not so far.
