hey guys
girlfriend has an 01 Sport Offroad V8, really nice, it hooked me, shes a keeper!!!
anyway, she went to move the seat back yesterday and found that it wont go back, just forward. there is no sound from the motor or the gear sliping or any thing just the click of the switch. whats going on? any help will be great

mine does that too....
I have to very carefully move the switch rearward very slowly and it will find a spot and power the motor back. It's getting harder to find that sweet spot

I don't allow the wife to move it forward anymore.... she used a small blanket folded up behind her now so that she can push the clutch in properly.

I don't believe it is the switch. Electric motors after time can have dead spots. The wear from the brushes, springs, comutator, bushings and windings all work together to create continuity problems. I had that problem back in 2001. 2 out of the three motors were working intermittently. I removed them myself as Dodge wants you to buy the whole seat bottom for $500.00+ dollars. Nope. I took the 2 motors from the positions I was having problems with and I had them rebuilt. That was 2001. They have never given my a problem since. Rebuild has lasted longer then when it was new except for the third motor which to date has not given me any problems.
Some people think they have a problem with their cruise control because it takes several pushes of the button to set/release/increase etc. They think it is the switches when in fact the more common problem is the clock spring. If it lights up on the dash but does not engage it is probably a vacum problem. Hope that helps. I can't have something not working on my truck. Joe

The first place to look IS the switch, because it's the easiest to trouble shoot and the most likely problem- clock springs are only an issue when the column has been repaired.
Check the seat switch (spray in some contact cleaner and work it if you can;t take it apart) The motor having dead spots is unlikely because you say it only happens in one direction- a dead spot is a short in the commutator, it will affect the motor in both directions. A bad brush in the motor can affect only one direction tho, but unlikely as well.
