Dragging Brakes Also
My parking brake is dragging on my truck (has been a while) Anyhow sometimes I will set the brake (it does basically nothing wore out I think) then drive a ways and I can smell the brakes, and see smoke comin outta the rear wheel. Then sometimes it's ok (probably still dragging a little) The caliper is good to go. My question is what all is involved in pulling the rear wheel assembly to get at the parking brake assembly? Process....special tools needed etc??? Any help would be great. Espececially as my truck pays my bills.
Thanks,
Tom

the 02 with discs in the rear. The caliper is fine and I know the problem lie within the rear rotor assembly but have never had a rear apart on a truck with discs on the back.

The park brake is a drum setup, so it should be very similar to a drum braked vehicle. I just had this happen to my truck, and it was e-brake cables that were cracked. When it would get cold, any condensation inside would freeze, and cause my cables to stick. New cables, and everything has been good so far. Just get a helper to run the e-brake pedal, you can see whats moving and what isn't, it'll tell you where to start.
