Drag times w/Smarty Beta
I went to the Speedway last night and ran three times. I had Smarty Beta 4.4 on #5. The only mods are a billet flexplate and transmission and replacement muffler, so really just stock. Had a lot of fun talking to the other drivers. Everyone was surprised at how fast it went (considering how much it weighs). By the time I made my last run at 11:32 PM, it had cooled all the way down to 96 degrees.
Best time of 14.315 @ 93.89 w/60' of 1.963. Now I have to spend more money. The sickness has me now, save yourselves.
BIG THANKS to Marco and Bob for Smarty and Dave and the guys at Goerend Bros. The tranny was smooth at WOT.
Here are the Time Slips (#163 right lane 1st slip and left lane 3rd slip). Important lesson: Don't roll down your back window after they write the drag number in shoe polish on it. That's why the 2nd time slip is handwritten.
Next time I'll have to drag someone along to videotape the runs.

Also, are you locking up your TC after the 1-2 shift? I ran a 14.2 with mine unlocked and a 13.86 with it locked. I think you could definitely be in the high 13's if it wasn't locked on those runs.

I don't have a controller or lock switch in yet, so it definitely would be faster. If I could find a controller cheap enough, I would do that. I was forgetting to take it out of 4WD (until I felt the binding as I turned out at the end of the strip ), so if I had a simple lockout switch, I can just imagine the lurching mess as I try to bring it to a stop and it stalls.

I don't have a problem trying to take it out of 4WD too soon. I kept forgetting until I started to turn out at the end of the track and felt it binding.
I had enough run-out at the end of the track, that I would let just the Jake-brake brake for half of it before using the brake pedal. But then what part of an 8000 pound tow vehicle is normal for drag racing. Poor ricers didn't know what hit them.

i have almost the same setup as you except exhaust and commander. How was your egt's? They get pretty high for me at wot. Seen up to 1500 max out my gauge before. Of course i let off when i see it. Also what kind of cars did you beat? Im curious as to what can match our trucks or what we can beat so i dont try to beat something to fast and be embarrassed.

Smarty is an impressive program, I just recently ran a 15.0 @ 89mph only on level #2 at 1psi launch (for consistency). Truck is bone stock other then the smarty.

It was a street racer night, so there were a lot of ricers. I raced against two ricers and a Toyota truck. They were all very surprised. I did talk to a couple STi drivers that were there that were faster. The Toyota truck was funny. He went around the water box and then started backing into it. The guy running the tree asked, "what are you doing." "I'm gonna do a burnout." "Why? All your going to do is lose tread."
I once raced an 07 'vette from a light. I knew I was going to lose, but fun is fun. I think he was a little annoyed that I didn't fall back as fast as he expected. After two short, quick blocks, we both slowed down and I looked in the mirror. The cars we had left behind were just a couple car lengths past the intersection we had started at. I figure that if I lose, hey, it's an 8000 pound truck, and if I win, you just got beat by an 8000 pound truck.
He's got a built transmission and launching at 15psi....a no no for a stock trans....these trucks will beat a lot of cars if you do the old 4x4 boosted launch....i just get embarassed if i stage at a light and there's someone behind me....they tend to get blacked out....if i don't do a boosted launch, i get some lag from th tight dtt converter before boost builds and i take off....and i still smoke the cars behind me....i need to practice quick boosted launches so it's not as bad....

EGTs around 1400-1450, plus if you haven't changed out the stock muffler, that will help some.

Yeah, the Smarty seems to give a nice little cloud. The stock turbo isn't too bad, but I still feel embarrassed. I suspect the cloud isn't as bad if you roll into the throttle and give it four or five seconds to build boost. The new TC is too efficient. I really have to stand on the brake while boosting.

By chance did you do a run w/o boosted launch? I'm guessing that'll add at least a second to the times??
