*****down pipe problem*****

I just put on a 5" silverline exhaust system and im having a problem getting the down pipe to make a "full" connection i guess. The clamp goes on fine but its not holding it tight enough. The turboe is making a loud whistle and when i "stall" the truck, black smoke comes from the clamp. I have taken it off a couple of times and put it back on but i still get it to be right.....any thoughts?

I would recommend trying a band style clamp instead of the common type. See picture.

where can u get those clamps? I know Dodge wants $66 for a stock v-clamp. The cheapest I can find them is for $45. That clamp looks good.

are you talking about the v band clamp at the cast elbow or the style clamp mentioned above? THe one above you can get at any big rig dealer for about $7. just a tip, take some good reynolds foil wrap and wrap it around the joint a couple times before you install the clamp. wrap it tight then install the clamp and peel off any excess. I had a diesel tech show me that when I had straight stacks on my Peterbilt. Worked killer for a cheap gasket and never had problems.

That's a good tip! I was thinking of doing the same with header wrap, but realized the wrap might be too thick.
