Dowel pin tab kit issues
I just got done installing the TST tab kit for the gear case dowel pin and was wondering if anyone else encountered the following issues. First - When I removed the cover I found the pin to be approx. 1/8" from flush with the gear case. Using a short punch held with vise grips I tapped the pin in to approx. 1/16" from flush with the gear case. At that point the pin would drive in no further. I installed the retaining tab and although it did bend slightly it still has the pin trapped. The bolt seated and torqued to spec. Second - The oval holes in the cam gear would not allow access to then case bolts behind the cam gear. The holes (I tried all three) needed to be closer to the gear teeth to allow a socket to access the bolts. Third - The TST kit makes mention of a black rubber dust shield which is to be installed between the front seal and the damper. The dust shield was not present when I removed the old seal and it was not present in the kit with the new seal. If anyone esle has encountered these issues please let me know. I'd hate to think it's "just me".

I did mine recently and there were a couple behind the gears that I couldn't get. Also, if the tab was bent slightly you will be fine. Your kdp is officially KIA. Congrats, now get out there and put some miles on it. I bought a new timing cover gasket and put a thin layer of rtv gasket on there and no leaks after about 800 miles.

the crank seal that tst provides has the dust seal incorporated in the seal. As for the two bolts behind the gear, i know what ur talking about, but u can get to them u just were looking at the wrong bolt, i spent 15 minutes trying to get to a bolt that was the wrong one.

Box 5 is exactly right. You can get to the correct bolts if the hole in the gear is lined up right. The bolt that you tried to get to is the wrong one. It took me a few tries to get it lined up right and I used a mirror to make sure I was on the right one as there is no room to look directly into the holes. Have magnet on a stick handy to pull the bolt out once you get it loose.
I got all of mine torqued with red loctite and buttoned it all back up. The dust seal is incorporated in the press in cover seal.
Good luck.
