Doors keep locking......themselves

So I got this 99CTD, I park it in the driveway just like always and start messin around inthe garage and I hear the truck make that distinctive "click" sound, so I look up and walk over the truck, pull on the handle and both doors are locked. Keys still inside. Hummm. Get my extra set and pop them to the unlocked position. Go inside the house for a bit, run back out to the truck to get my can of chew and the doors are locked again. hummmm, get the extra set of keys and double check to make sure they are unlocked. Go to bed. next morning I go out to check it out, doors are locked again. So I tell the wife the situation, don't leave the keys in the truck and if you do...here is where I keep the extra.

Anyone else have a similar situation? Is the key fob malfuntioning? or do I just need to clean up the eletronic lock/unlock switch on the door panel? i have noticed that when it rains (and I like having the window down when it rains ) the rain drips right onto the lock/window controls, wondering if that is creating a short... Thanks

Sounds like a corroded contact. And I'm not sure if you can tear them apart and clean them. May have to buy a new switch, or hunt around a junk yard.

I think there is a tsb on that. I remember reading something about it but its been a few years and well, my memory is questionable at best. My 01 half ton has been known to do the same thing. Went through a little spurt where it started to do it often, then pretty much quit. I tend to lock my doors most times anway, so it may still do it, I just haven't noticed in a while.

Mine locked on me at 5:45am one morning when I was parking it on the street at work. I got out to check the space (long bed here!) and the **** door locked! Windows shut, running and in the middle of the street LOL! Had to run into work and call the wife to bring the 2nd set of keys.

I still haven't fixed it but carry 2 sets of keys!

My brother in laws 98 did the same thing. Some fool wired in an aftermarket alarm system and it would close the windows and lock the doors after sitting for about 3 minutes. He lives out in the wilds so never really takes the keys out of anything he owns. Drove him nuts.
Your problem sounds like the lock switches to me. They are in the doors by the lock tumblers and tell the computer if the doors are locked or unlocked. Mine were setting off the alarm when unlocking the doors and I had them replaced. The rig would honk the horn 3 times upon unlock telling me the truck had been tampered with when I knew the alarm hadn't been triggered. The older ones apparently aren't weatherproof like the replacements. I have had Dodge parts guys and techs on this thread tell me there is no difference or a weatherproof version that they are aware of.
BTW, the dealer doesn't see my truck anymore!

I hope so. The last post was 13 years ago and the OP hasn’t posted since 2008. You might try starting a new thread with your problem

Don't you just hate that. I drive for a senior bus service in a small town. It's a 2016 Ford Transit and it does this erratically.
