Door pin replacement questions

Is it better to keep the door on the hinge to replace the two pins or remove the door. I searched alot and not sure which pins I have to be removing or which is the best method of removing them.

Also where do the brass bushings go? This is the kit I have http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/97-02...Q5fAccessories

When I've done them before, I put a jack with a wooden block under door just enough to raise door and take weight off hinges. Remove one pin at a time and replace the bushings in hinge and put new pin in and do same to other.

Take a close look at your hinge pins. On my truck the original pins were stepped. That is, the head side was wider than the pin side. So the holes were different sizes. On my pin replacement I had to remove the door and remove the door side hinge for drilling. On the truck side I could drill installed.

Later. I damaged my door and had to purchased new hinges. The pins on the new hinges are now one size.

The bushings go on the door side. You can cut or tap the pin out. I used a c clamp to press then out as I wanted to save the pin.

The long pin with large bushings are for the door. The short pin with small bushings are for the door open detent bar. If you are doing the detent bar and have problems with the spring, let me know.
