Don't update your 3805 Superchips

The current tune for our trucks feels quite a bit slower than the previous tune. Here is what I wrote in a thread where others are reporting the same thing:

"My first 04.5 truck with the tuner seemed quite a bit faster (2x4, quad, shorty). On hot asphalt, with Toyo AT 285's, a posi, going perfectly straight, punching it from a low RPM in 3rd gear (manual 6 speed) both tires would break loose big time. Not just a little squeal, but really burn the tires and at times send me sideways. Now, on my 06, 4x4, mega (definetly quite a bit heavier) it seems slower. On hot asphalt, in a straight line, with no posi and factory little tires, it will accelerate hard but not fry the one tire. I know I am quite a bit heavier, but a non-posi truck with dinky tires? The previous truck smoked quite a bit more, which I don't particularily like, but this truck smokes much less, which makes me wonder what all is different about the tune. My first truck killed the clutch asap, this one has yet to make the stock clutch even slip a tad. I totally want the kind of power that forces me to upgrade the clutch. I want my 06 (which again, I know is heavier being a 4x4 and megacab) to have more power. When I finally went from tow to performance, the difference was not that great. The threads about the lack extreme tuning always kind of bored me. I want the power I felt in my earlier truck. I now may join the "where is the extreme tune" bandwagon.

I know exactly what you are saying. I'm playing with the smarty right now and still cannot find a tune that compares to my sc on performance. I'm glad you posted this, I won't be upgrading the sc. I think this is superchip way of releasing the extreme tune. They have caught a lot of heat over broken promises that I expect them to keep detuning the performance program to the point they will release the extreme tune but it will be exactly like the original performance tune. The smarty is a little more user friendly and customer service is better hands down. I just hope this beta 4 compares so I can get one tuner a stick with it.

Beast I have the SC3805 on my 07 and it slips my clutch. But the customer service sucks. I've been planning on going with a smarty do I understand correctly that your trying a smarty and its not as "fast" as the SC program?

That's exactly what I'm saying. My sc will melt tires on low and is strong all the way to the top and the rpms go to 3500 which I think is odd because on other sites people complained about wanting more rpm over stock. So far the smarty will only go to 3000 rpm and is definetly weaker on top. I also noticed shift points on my tranny are different between the two but not sure which one does the changing. With the sc my tranny shifts quicker and sometimes it jumps from 1st to 2nd too quick. The smarty is smoother with higher shift points. Hopefully I can get a tune that works better--I'll let you know. Does anyone else see 3500 rpms out of their sc? Also what about shift points?

I see 3500 with no problem with my SuperChips. Its the only power adder I've used, so I cannot really help with the shift points. I know from a rolling start, it'll smoke both tires like crazy. Lots of boost, but my EGT's can also get a little high if I stay in it too long. I was wanting to update mine, because I cannot get the tire size correction or high idle yet. Anyone know if I can update just these options without updating the power program?

No, you have to upgrade everything. My last upgrade was in december and I got the high idle

Can I leave the stock program in the FP and upgrade? Or do I need to download stock program back into truck? Thanks for the help and sorry about the hijack.

I was told you can leave the stock program in the flashpaq when you update. I'll see if I can find the thread on flashpaq site.

you are a brave man. when your tranny takes a dive are you going to use that as an excuse to go all out on a bullet proof tranny? that was the next thing on my to-do list but i just found out today the total to repair the outdrive on my boat is a whooping $6200!! seriously though, if you drive your stock 48re as you say you do with all these tire melting runs, i firmly believe its going to be short lived. good luck with it.

btw. i used to do on my SC but when i made the switch to smarty, i havent even come close to flooring it for fear of damage. when set up right it will show you what components are your weakest link

found it.

Thank you for purchasing our Flashpaq. One of the great features about the Flashpaq is that you DO NOT need to reprogram your vehicle to stock first. You can apply any updates (this one or future ones) immediately after you download them. Even your stock file stored inside the tuner is still saved!

Don't get me wrong, I drive it pretty mild but you have to play with it once or twice to see what you got. I will upgrade the tranny when needed but so far I have no issues.

Here's something for you, My 06 3500 4x4 auto with 3" lift 35's and a Smarty set on the 90hp level had it's edited by admin handed to it by another 06 auto 4x4 with stock tires and a Superchips programmer set on performance. The top end was embarrassing, he went past me like I was towing a trailer
I still like my Smarty but being able to drive the 2 trucks I find that even mine set on level 7 won't be able to keep up. I know the bigger tires and lift will affect the outcome somewhat but the SC still rocks in my books!
