Donaldson 40" - Thoughts on Install
I searched the threads and I am going to get the Donaldson 40” muffler. I have some questions on installing the muffler. I am average when it comes to my automotive upgrade/repair skills. I typically have help from buddies, but I have put in the current leveling kit, put on a lift kit on an old truck I had, did some engine work/repair (never a full rebuild), but I do not know how to weld yet (I want to learn). I was wondering:
What the difficulty level is on installing the Donaldson?
Will I need to weld or it is just clamps?
Does it replace the stock muffler length wise or do I need some pipe?
Going from the offset to the straight pipe, do I need to change the location of the muffler and use some bent pipe for the offset?
Or should I just have a muffler shop install it – any thoughts on what that should cost?
Sorry for all the questions, I just like to plan ahead. Thanks.

I am postive the stock muffler won't be exactly 40". Are you ditching the cat to? If so, you can just buy some 4" pipe to fill in the rest, no angles are needed. If your just putting in the new muffler might need some pipe, just depends on the difference in muffler length. If you can get the stock ones off good, you can clamp it, I was able to get my stock clamps off, but the pipes were squished together pretty good and wouldn't pull apart, so I had to cut them off, welding is good for extra strength. The pipe changes like 4" in elavation, but it would be over approx 6.5' so it's not a big deal. If you got a mig it is so easy, really don't need that good of a weld for exhaust.
Just noticed you've got a mega, so you've got a reasonator near the axle, not sure if the rest is exactly the same, but probably.

Prefer to have it welded, and if so, make sure that it is 360 degrees so all of the exhaust goes out the tailpipe. Don't want gasses creeping into the cab and putting you to sleep, that would be a bad thing

Bumping this back up. I'm looking to do the 40" Donaldson too and am wondering what problems to encounter. I'm not sure I want to weld it just yet so I'll probably go the clamp route. The local dealer was a total *** when I told him it was going on a pickup so I will probably order mine offline.
What part number should I order?
Is this it?
