what does a wasgate sound like when it opens?i just got this 3rd gen and got a predator tuner,when i get on her it sounds like a backfire out the exhast.should i block the wasgate and try a boost fooler?kinda scared me first time it hapend.

what it sounds like is turbo bark, do you have any gauges installed to monitor your boost numbers? clamping off the wastegate line will only make the turbo make more boost.

If you are getting on it and hear a backfire sound out of the exhaust that isn't the wastegate or turbo bark, it's lack of fuel. My buddy's did it with bully dog alone, my truck did it with my PPE on extreme alone. The wastegate should open when you get off of it. They usually make a sound something like tsst tsst tsst tsst (best I can do, lol) and it each time it does it it fades, less loud.

I believe we have an external wastegate that bleeds pressure back off into the exhaust and I have yet to hear my wastegate make any noise. Here is a good read on wastegates and how they work. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wastegate

My 03 did, but it was very rare. The only time I really remember it was when I was flooring it in the snow and would let off before I had disengaged the clutch and it would bleed off the extra psi.

Judging from your sig, it sounds like you might be running out of fuel...

Did that predator/puck give any indications that an aftermarket lift pump may be necessary? Like I said, I know of several trucks that made the same type of sound you are describing on just a downloader/programmer.

i know i should have gauges,i keep waiting for the darn trinity to come out,maybe i should just get a comader and get it overwith,my truck has the lift pummp in the tank now,{waranty fixed it}.is it ok to run the stock pump in tank and another pump such as a holleyblue or somthing?also the predator puck info doesnt recomend a pump but they do recomend auto tranny upgrades.

That Predator/Puck will definately run you out of fuel. A had it on my truck and threw a P0148 (I was told this meant I was starving the CP3 of fuel) code a couple different times; both times happened when accellerating hard. A buddy of mine has the Predator only and runs the extreme tune and that is on an 04.5 2500 CTD. His fuel pressure gauge will hit below 1 psi in no time with the Predator on the Extreme tune. The Performance tune isn't much better either. He is also running the in-tank lift pump. I would definately recommend an aftermarket lift pump kit. My factory pump just took a crap on me @ 37,000 miles and I attribute some of the early failure to the Predator/Puck stack. Granted I knew this would happen when pushing the factory pump; they weren't made for high HP.......

I did get a Glacier Diesel Power GFS-392 Comp System and Big Line Kit out of it though. I can't complain there.
