It stands for SHort and should be flashing 2 times per second.

My booklet states:
1) Brake wire sees short during idle connection.
2) Use of some test lights or non-Tekonsha testers can cause this problem.

thanks

That is what it was going...my brakes were working and then not working.

I imagine it was in the plug.

I had a short (SH) showing on my Prodigy brake controller a while back. I found that where the brake wires entered the left side trailer brakes and branched to the right trailer brakes were grounding out. They had been bundled together and when going highway speeds I would show a short. At slower speeds it did not. what was happening was the air flowing under the trailer was bending the wires back so the were rubbing on the wheel and finally wore through and went to ground.

You shouldn't get a SH from a loose plug or loose wire (unless the loose wire is grounding itself). If the plug comes loose, etc. it'll say "n.c."

The only time I got intermittent SH from my trailer was when one of the magnets inside a brake drum had somehow completely destroyed itself and tore up the inside of the drum. I assumed I had a loose wire and went through every other part of the trailer before finally taking off the drums, and found that. Hopefully your problem is just a shorting wire!
