Does a boost fooler actually increase boost?

Does a boost fooler actually increase boost?

I am running a smarty sr and only building about 25 pounds of boost. I have not been after it too hard as still breaking in my new clutch. Question is does it really raise boost or just stop over boost codes? I shut the wastgate off and saw no difference.

I got +5 max boost w/the Quad fooler on my '07, saw up to 35 with a Jr. on SW1. Haven't really romped on it since I loaded SW2 just yesterday, but the butt dyno says yet again a bit more...

From my understanding the boost fooler just prevents the ECM from throwing overboost codes.

As Scott said, run the Wastegate off and you will see more boost.

Not to hijack this thread but here goes...so at what pressure do you need to think about new studs? I sometimes hit 40psi with a quad boost fooler while towing. Should I really be concerned?

I have a Quad X2, and I understood the unit is tricking the ecm into thinking boost is low so it adds more.

H8GAS, I have been hitting 40 for years now. I think you need more power adders and more boost before you have to worry about swapping in studs. I would be more concerned about the stock turbo crapping out first.

from what i've heard its when your close to the 45-50#s range. i'll be putting studs in when i put new injectors is mainly because i'm already there so why not.

I have to play with it a bit but I have had my wastegate set at off and saw no difference. Still only mid 20's. If I am correct I have heard that on some trucks the wastegate setting does nothing? What do you guys think about an older xzt box stacked with the smarty sr?

Yes, because:

That's how it prevents the ECM from sensing out-of-spec higher boost levels. Just like the name implies, it "fools" the ECM into thinking the boost is lower than it really is.

Result: Higher boost, no DTC's set.

Yes, the boost fooler will allow more boost by clamping the voltage that comes form the MAP sensor and the ECU never see's higher than normal boost.

Smarty does not boost fool, only remaps the boost tables out to 45 psi so it will continue to fuel. Max boost is limited by the ECU opening the WG at a preset value.

The problem you are having is the WG controller Off option in Smarty is not working on your truck. You need a boost fooler to limit what the ECU is seeing then you will have more boost.

What are the dangers of turning the wastegate off?
