Angry Does anyone else's Cruise Control do this?

After you touch the brake say and coast down to about 60 mph, if you had the cruise originally set say at 75 the ECU winds the crap out of the motor up to about 3100 rpm and it doesn't shift until it winds way up...why not have the truck shift sooner so it is in its torque band? The powerjokes that I have driven even have that right!

I have noticed that before. Now I just get within a couple miles of my set point and hit resume.

Mine is a 6-speed, but if I'm about 15 miles slower and I hit resume, it will sometimes pull so hard it goes past the original speed. Then it will slowly come back down. Usually I just get back to the desired speed and set it again.

Every Dodge truck or van auto that myself or anyone in my family has had done that. That said, my '06 hasn't done it yet even towing the last time, though admittedly it wasn't a particularly hilly route

My parents traded a Dodge '98 1/2 ton 360 CC gasser off because of that once.....

Never tried that method..But will try it to see if my truck does it. I usually hit cancel then get back up to speed and hit set again, something I have always done with all my trucks.

My 6spd will also pull real hard to get back to speed but 99% of the time I just get back to about my set speed and hit resume or I just reset it to a new speed.

You might want to be careful about doing that in the winter. It's safer to be near your original speed before resuming. Years ago, my dad did something like that -- we happened to hit a slick spot in the road which resulted in an instant loss of traction. Banged up the van a bit.

Me too. The cruise control is very "aggressive" in getting you up to speed if you hit resume.

I think this is due to all of the power of the Cummins!! The transmission has a hard time keeping up!!

I've had Ferd and Dodges (gas engines) do some thing close to this in cars, vans and trucks. That is why you always get close to your speed before you hit resume. If you has done this in the winter time you could of been screwed big time! I thought at one time this was talked about in the owners manual, but who reads them now days! Anyway I guess you can now say that you learned something new!

All the chevy's I've driven will accelerate and sometimes down shift to get back up to speed fast. My cummins tries but the stock tranny won't let it.
